Notes
Steve Earles new album TOWNES, is his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album WASHINGTON SQUARE SERENADE. The 15-song set is comprised of songs written by Earles friend and mentor, the late singer/songwriter Towns Van Zandt. The songs selected for TOWNES were the ones meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to. Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt's original solo performances to the best of his recollection.

Item was exactly as described, Good communications by seller, Packed very well and Shipped eventually. A great eBay business you can trust. Just kind of slow to ship out. I was in a hurry and so I had to buy another from different supplier. If you're in a hurry, you might not want to buy here. At least I now have a good spare.

  • STEVE EARL: "Towns"

Friends, this one is AWESOME!! It's "My man" Steve Earl's tribute to his hero, Towns Van Zant... Towns is a hero & mentor to countless singers, story tellers, and song writers from all walks of life. Not just music, because the man was a living ledgend. And anyone who knew anything picked up on that real quick! Towns was just that kind of guy. You could feel his presence a few seconds before he arrived. STEVE EARL has payed Towns the finest tribute one friend can give another. Here, he performs the original music of Towns perfectly & seemingly effortlessly. His love & admoreation for his friend puncuate every word here. One thought comes to mind....Masterpiece!! From "Pancho & Lefty" all the way through,_________ Every word & note are ...

  • ALL PREVIOUS REVIEWS ARE "RIGHT ON"

Steve Earle sure got this one right, About 7 years ago, my friend Dennis Ferrell introduced me to Texas Music, the newer group of Outlaws, Steve Earle, Guy Clark and the late Townes Van Zandt. Dennis gave me REAR VIEW MIRROR, the definitive Townes album. Earle's covers are Townes' songs done the way that Townes taught them to Earle. Reviewers' much more talented than I unanimously gave kudos to Steve Earle for his efforts with the music. I add mine to that list. Boffo stuff.

  • Steve Earle does the songs of the best songwriter ever.

I´ve been a huge Steve Earle fan ever since I first heard demos of his songs for his debut record "Guitar Town" in the mid 80´s. I´ve followed him ever since and have all his records. This is not his best, but since he´s doing covers of the best songwriter ever, Townes van Zandt, you can´t go wrong, and any Steve Earle record is worth at least four stars in my book.

  • An excellent selection of Townes' songs

This is an excellent selection of Townes music although the music and words are distorted in part of "Lungs". I really enjoy the CD on the whole.

  • Worth more than just a listen.

I really like the tone of this album. If you're a Steve Earle fan, you'll like it.If you're Townes fan, you'll appreciate it. It isn't the old rockabilly sound of the Copperhead Road album, it more the new Steve Earle sound.Something you can sip a whiskey with.
