This was my absolute favorite Saturday morning cartoon during its brief 3 season run. For years I tried to find this as it never ran in syndicate after its initial release. So glad to finally have this quality and FUN piece of 80's history!

Dungeons & Dragons the complete animated series
This is one animated fantasy series from the eighties, or from any other period for that matter, that stands out from the crowd. If you love G.I. Joe, The Transformers, or other 80s Marvel cartoons, Dungeons & Dragons will not disappoint. It first aired in '83 (the same year as G.I. Joe), but never got quite got the recognition that G.I. Joe or Transformers got, but nevertheless it stands out as a beautifull example of what can be achieved when the appropriate time is taken to craft it. Consisting of but a paltry 27 episodes over 3 years, Dungeons & Dragons delivers in depth. The background art is stunning, the stories are varied & the character development is among the best. It has little to do with the actual role-playing game & instead follows the adventures of 6 ... The voice cast includes actors Donald Most as Eric "The Cavalier" (best known for his role as Ralph in "Happy Days", & from "Eight is enough", Willie AAmes as Hank "The Ranger", & Adam Rich as Presto "The Magician". Tim Cullen (AKA the voice of Optimus Prime) as "Venger" & the ever-present Frank Welker (best known as the voice of "Fred" from Scooby Doo) as "Uni, the unicorn". Throughout the series the children are guided in their quest to return home by "Dungeon Master", a Yoda-like character who perpetually speaks in riddles & may or may not have a vested interest in the outcome of their adventures. In addition they are constantly hounded by the evil half-human, half fiend "Venger", whos' only worthy adversary is "Tiamat", a 5 headed dragon. The stories are imaginative & varied and make the most of the medium in which they were written. If you remember this series then I need say no more, you remember how good it was. But the special features are where this DVD set really shines. It includes character creature & artifacts profiles, a 32 minute featurette documentary, selected audio commentary, an interactive adventure, selected story boards, fun facts, alternate openings/end credits and rare footage, extensive gallery of original model sheets & memorabilia, live action fan film, DVD-ROM features, a standard Dungeons & Dragons adventure based on one of the episodes (in the form of an included booklet), & a radio-stye presentation of the un-aired final episode "Requiem" where the children finally get back home,plus a few "Easter eggs". In summation, if you really love this series,or if you just love GOOD cartoons, you can't go wrong with this DVD box set! AAAA++++ all across the board!

Great for the whole family!
I loved it on Saturday mornings as a child! My daughter caught a few episodes being played last summer on Saturday mornings on our local T.V. station. She recorded one and asked me if I'd seen it and what I thought about it. I was suprised it was the same series I had watched and Loved. We set out to see if the series was available to purchase on DVD and found it on eBay. HOORAY!!! We have enjoyed the entire adventure as a family. We laughed as one character was changed temporally into a "Bog Beast" it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. We learned not to judge people by appearances in “Prison Without Walls.” Then in “The Dragons Graveyard” we learn about revenge; if our actions, become the same as those of our enemies we are no better than they are. Dungeons & Dragons: Complete Animated Series(DVD, 2006)
I loved this show when it first came out simply because I love "Medieval Fantasy" and that's what this is, but it pulls characters from modern-day Earth into that realm. I wasn't sure how the mix would be, but it turned out very entertaining! This show was titled after the popular role-playing game but in my opinion really had nothing to do with it. It also was under a lot of scrutiny when it was on TV because of the game itself and the idea of casting spells, etc.... I grew up in a strict religious home and my father loved adventure shows but he worried when I began to watch this series due to the criticism of the game. I wished the show had another name to it so that worried parents wouldn't be so critical of it. And I never did play the games, mostly because I wasn't interested in them. ... Some shows were scary for cartoons, like the one where children are taken from there beds in our world and made slaves in another world. It was like watching a mild horror show. But it is a great show because it's so different. The music is beautiful and the animation is great! There are perfect voice actors too. I will forever laugh at dorky "Eric" voiced by Donny Most of Happy Days. Perfect! :) What's sad is that the final episode was never produced. But it is included as a radio show, so it can be listened to.

The premise of this show was.. that a group of friends at an amusement park get on a Dungeons and Dragons ride and are then zapped into another realm. While in this realm, they have to work together and help people out on different adventures, while trying to get back home. This show was ahead of its time, and should be re-done with new episodes. If your a person that like values from the eighties and old school pizza parlours and other neat things from that time period, I would suggest you pick up a copy of this.
