About this product

Product Information

Now fully updated and revised, the new Fourth Edition of Cell and Molecular Biology not only offers you and your students all of the latest research, it also gives students the tools they need to understand the science behind cell biology and ultimately succeed in your course. This text is ideal for sophomore/junior-level courses in cell biology offered out of biology or molecular and cell biology departments. Cell and Molecular Biology provides an alternative for faculty looking for a text that concentrates on core concepts without sacrificing coverage of experimental evidence. Karp explores core concepts in considerable depth, and presents experimental detail when it helps to explain and reinforce the concept being explained. This edition also continues to offer an exceedingly clear presentation and excellent art program, both of which have received high praise in prior editions.

  • Dense and disorganized

I bought this book for a college life science course. I appreciated the author's enthusiasm about offering the experimental basis for what is known in molecular biology. However, I think the book lacks much-needed organization. As a result, the text is especially dense and at many times confusing. It feels as if the author is talking at the reader instead of trying to convey information in an efficient way. I don't know any alternative books for molecular biology, but the study guide is highly recommended to get the bottom line. A good example of an organized life science book (for my previous life science course) is "Life: The science of biology" by Purves/Sadava/Orians/Heller

  • Great book for cell biology class (BSCI330)

Karp's Cell and Molecular Biology is a good, reliable book for any upper level biology class. I like it because it is concise; it gets the point across adequately with less "blabber" than other biology textbooks. The text is also relatively organized and easy to read, though it could be a little bit better. The pictures and diagrams are very populous and definitely are very helpful. Overall, a good solid book!

  • Cell and Molecular Biology by Gerald Karp (2004)

I was very impressed with this book. My course title is Cell Biology, but this book is entitled Cell and Molecular Biology, so I thought, wow, it would talk a lot about stuff on the molecular level, but it doesn't. It's new; no scratches, no dents, or wrinkles. The information is very helpful and the diagrams really enhance the topics being taught.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

I like this book very much. There are wonderful illustrations and it has an efficient layout. I recommend this book to anyone taking a cell biology class, a molecular biology class, or just for reference.

  • good stuff for undergraduate student

very principal concepts and brief and wide range of knowledge of biological science good figures and cartoons, easy to understand for college students or students from other field who are interested in biology.
