About this product

Product Information

The compact Nikon Micro-NIKKOR F/2.8 CRC DX SWM AF-S SIC M/A lens takes high-quality, high-resolution stills and high-definition movies. Sharpness and clarity are achieved with the continuous autofocus from infinity to 6.4 inches. Fine details are captured at any distance by this excellent close-up lens. The lightweight lens has a rounded 7-blade diaphragm that boosts the item's performance and enhances the end results. The innovative close-range correction system increases the focal range and ensures superior image quality at close distances. Using ultrasonic vibrations, the Silent Wave Motor focuses the lens giving a precise autofocus operation. Providing 1x magnification, it works well in low-light conditions to provide crisp, bright pictures for your digital SLR. You will notice that these micro lenses are particularly lightweight at just over 0.5 pounds. When attached to a digital camera of any kind, it hardly adds any weight. It is very portable and easy to take with you wherever you go as it is small enough to carry around in a purse or similar bag. The aperture with this particular device is controlled directly by the camera you use with it. The item dimensions are set to 2.72 by 2.72 by 2.56 inches. The Nikkor 40mm has a solid build that consists of a durable plastic barrel and metal mount. These lens accessories are designed with high-quality materials that will last. This Nikon lens has a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a minimum of f/22. The optical zoom extends to a massive 60x magnification. This is more than enough to allow you to hone in on any object in the distance. When considering attaching a filter to this type of Nikon lens, it is compatible with a filter thread size of 52mm. Any filter you have is applied to this Nikon item by screwing it in place. While these AF/S f/2.8 lenses work well with any format of photography, they have been crafted with certain types in mind. The high zoom and 40mm focal length make this Nikon item ideal for portraits, landscapes, delicate flowers, and close-ups. You will be pleased with the inclusion of an easy-to-use switch that seamlessly takes you from auto-focus mode to manual focus mode. All you need to do to change between these two modes is to rotate the installed focus ring. This Nikon 40mm lens is also equipped with a super integrated coating that offers several benefits to your photography. These benefits include better light transmission efficiency and enhanced color consistency. This coating is also great for reducing the amount of lens flare that adversely affects your photo. While these lenses are specifically micro ones, they can also operate as a macro lens for macro photos. This particular DX item fits with a wide range of DSLR cameras. If you like to isolate objects, this NIKKOR 40mm provides natural background blur that automatically allows for enhanced focusing. This is available at wide-aperture settings. Selective focus can assist in isolating the subject. This AF-S system is equipped with nine elements in seven groups, with the AF technology of this device designed to be inaudible when in use.

    Sharp images with unbelievable details

This lens can do micro macro photography great! If you have kit lenses and you are considering another lens, get this one over the 35 mm or the 50 mm. Hands down much better value. I am very pleased with the lens. If it had some vibration reduction as well, that would be great. Zoom in on the pictures. You can see the pollen and the details in the pistols. With a tripod and better lighting I could have captured more detail.

  • This is a fine, bargain-priced alternative for or addition to a "kit" lens.

The only reason for my not giving this lens a solid 5-star rating is the lack of f-stop settings, which was a given going in. Its use is therefor limited to the new bodies with settings done on the camera. Otherwise, it is a bright, extremely sharp lens at all apertures and distances, good for portrait and general use as well as 1:1 macro, with a bokeh far superior to what you get with your "kit" zoom lens. At its 60mm equivalent with DX format you can just leave it on and use your feet for zooming. Its light weight makes it easy to carry all day, too.

  • Opens up a whole new world

My first experience with macro photography and am having a lot of fun exploring my backyard. images are very sharp, but with that comes a very small focal range which can be challenging. I often find myself bumping into subject with lens. I guess I will be looking to add a longer lens so I don't have to get that close. Maybe 105mm macro.

  • A very good macro lens on a Nikon 1 system camera

Although not the best focal length for a macro lens (it puts the front of the lens very close to the subject) on a DX body, it works very well on a Nikon 1 system body such as the V2 via the Nikon FT1 adapter. The small size and weight of this lens are a decent match for Nikon's discontinued mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras built around the 1" sensor.

  • Nice but 1:1requires getting too close in.

Nice lens, sharp images, but for macro work you really need a longer focal length, Nikon's 105mm micro or Tokina's 100mm macro probably a better choice for macro photography.
