In Clint Eastwood's acclaimed Western, Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman), a sadistic, dictatorial sheriff, enforces gun control on a tiny frontier town, doling out his own brand of due process as he sees fit. When he denies justice to the prostitutes of the town brothel, one of whom has been slashed by a client, the women hire Bill Munny (Eastwood), a reformed gunslinger, to gain vengeance.     Definitive Eastwood

    This 2002 issue DVD movie is generally considered Clint Eastwood's definitive work. An excellent story and acting by all. Morgan Freeman has gained a lot of respect over the last few years and this film highlights this. I got the feeling that Gene Hackman stumbled into this movie and had his own vision of his role - he's really capable of better but it seems that he didn't apply himself 100%. This is one of those movies you'll remember for years. You need to review this film before letting non-adults watch it due to subject matter. Absolutely outstanding!

    Western adventure doesn't get much better than this.

    I beleive Clint Eastwood to be an American legend. Actor,producer, director, this man has done westerns,drama,comedy and action. Some roles not so good but, this movie is a real gem. A true bad guy gone good - gone bad again. The cast is all stars and the plot moves along with much energy. If you have enjoyed other Eastwood westerns, then this one is for you.

    Unforgiven

    Searched for this DVD/Double Special Edition in several stores with no luck. It was on Ebay for a reasonable price. Some say this movie is boring for the western genre. The point, I believe is missed by those who say this. The acting alone makes it worth a view, or ten, however, the story itself is not simply about Eastwood's attempt to atone for the stereotyping in his other westerns. It is about several types of men (and women) who no longer exist. It shows the truth about the lives these people lived . . . life was brutal and those who answered with brutality were rarely forgiven in the end as corruption existed in every facet, from law enforcement to those who lived lawlessly and everyone in between, the 'pure' pioneer life was always just out of reach.

    Engaging Modern Western

    Great take on a western with engaging characters, good action, and makes you feel for the characters. Didn't have the two discs, which didn't matter to me, however, it had the important one to me...the movie. Another Clint Eastwood winner.
