Mojang's massively popular sandbox game brings its mix of digging, exploration, and construction to the PS4 in the aptly named Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition. As always, players can customize and control the default character (lovingly known as Steve) and head into randomly generated worlds made up of cubes representing various elements and materials, such as iron, sand, and coal. The worlds operate on realistic day/night cycles and feature varied terrain and environments, and as gamers explore they come across a variety of creatures and non-player characters known as mobs.<br><br>There are two modes in Minecraft, both of which can be played alone or with friends in split-screen multiplayer action. Survival mode is an open-ended adventure in which players are encouraged to gather natural resources, build shelter, and gradually acquire or craft more powerful and effective weapons and armor. Daytime mobs like cows, chickens, and sheep can be killed for food and materials, while nighttime mobs like giant spiders, zombies, and skeletons will attack players on sight. Other mobs include the iconic Creepers, which sneak up on players and explode, or the creepily silhouette-like Enderman, which can teleport and grab blocks, but are benign unless provoked.<br><br>There is no definitive endpoint in Survival mode, but gamers may eventually find themselves visiting the Nether, a hell-like alternate dimension full of unique resources, or the End, a dimension that contains only the Ender Dragon, a boss whose death triggers the game's credits. Variants of Survival mode include a peaceful mode, which removes all hostile creatures, and the hardcore mode, which deletes the entire world if players die. The second way to play Minecraft is Creative mode, which immediately grants access to the vast majority of elements and items in the game, lets gamers fly around the map freely, and encourages them to design anything they can think of, from single-room homes to entire cities re-created in minute detail.

    Great Game!

    I've been playing this game for years and it's really addicting. I decided to buy the ps4 version for my siblings. Great casual/adventurous game for kids or anyone who likes video games. It's also multiplayer. Up to 4 people if you have 4 controllers and you are playing on one tv. You can also invite friends over online to your worlds if they can't come over to your house to play and vice versa. Many different updates being added so there are more possibilities with every step you take. ❤

    Has two versions of minecraft on it.

    Has two versions of minecraft on it. This version of mine craft on top of being backwards compatible. Has a second version and older build of mine craft on it made by the Scottish studio that has some more interesting features on it. Pick this up for an older version with some real interesting stuff in it that is no longer in the Microsoft build of the game.

    Finally got around to playing it

    I'm late to the minecraft party. It looked boring to me so I put off trying it. Man, do I regret that. I can honestly say it's one of my favorite games of all time now. the music, the simple but charming graphics, the survival and crafting and building are all great. It's the kind of game that you find yourself thinking about when you aren't playing it.

    Kids love this game

    After playing it on a laptop, and on a phone, my middle decided since we got the ps4 for Christmas, why not upgrade her minecraft too. So, with her own money, picked this up for herself, and loves it. She can't decide which to play all day, this or skyrim. I'm glad she enjoys it.
