Synopsis
As featured on PBS's The Great American Read The text of this Norton Critical Edition is based, with typesetting errors corrected, on the first U.S. edition (1876), the most authoritative of the editions published in Twain's lifetime., "Criticism" includes interpretations by William Dean Howells, Hamlin L. Hill, Judith Fetterley, Alan Gribben, Glenn Hendler, Carter Revard, and Susan R. Gannon. A Chronology and Selected Bibliography are also included., "Backgrounds and Contexts" provides students with the standard source materials often cited by critics--Twain's stories of Good and Bad Boys, his Boy's Manuscript, his correspondence with William Dean Howells, and his 1870 letter to Will Bowen. This section also includes lesser-known but valuable contextual materials, among them Twain's journalistic description of school exercise and the discussion of Perry Davis' Pain Killer and other nineteenth-century nostrums. "Criticism" includes interpretations by William Dean Howells, Hamlin L. Hill, Judith Fetterley, Alan Gribben, Glenn Hendler, Carter Revard, and Susan R. Gannon. A Chronology and Selected Bibliography are also included.

- d***d (601)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseGreat seller. I asked three different sellers the same question about this CD. One did not respond. One said they didn't have time to answer. Valleys_Books_andMore were the only ones to not only answer, but took the time to send a couple pics as well. I purchased immediately after hearing from them. It was a smooth transaction and the CD was in better condition than advertised. Thanks guys!!Gold & Platinum (#396536393289)
- v***i (699)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI have been humming the most prominent tune in this series, Ashokan Farewell," for days now and it finally prompted me to order the DVDs. The package just arrived this afternoon and I will see about retrieving my old DVD player to watch it all all over again this weekend. The description said it was in "good" shape, but it hardly looks used to my untrained eye. Great price ($10). Well packaged for the journey and delivered on time. Thanks! The Civil War - A Film by Ken Burns [DVD] (#365562425043)
