Great solution for classic PC disk storage
I had a project which depended on an older PC that only supported ISA and VLB disk controllers. This meant older ATA or SCSI I/II disk drives, both of which are very hard to come by. This solves the problem in a cost effective manner which will be sustainable long term. As easy to install as a hard drive. The box also comes with a power cable adapter if needed, and a bracket to put in place of an add-in card at the back of the computer instead of using the front mount bracket. Note: the front mount bracket is 3 1/2 inches, the size of a floppy disk slot, not the bigger 5 1/4.I had a project which depended on an older PC that only supported ISA and VLB disk controllers. It's a passive adapter. Aside from LEDs and a better slot, what could you ask for?
It's a passive adapter, and it even has master/slave jumpers! Which is awesome, meaning I can pair this thing up with the optical drive in the system on the same channel as well. I just seriously wish the manufacturer of this product would team up with the manufacturer of the "SD to IDE" adapter and make a front-mountable SD to IDE interface. I use an SD- CF, then since CF is natively IDE anyway, a CF- IDE adapter adds no extra overhead. The CF-SD adapter, though, tries too hard... it can RAID two SD cards, I don't really need that... and it's an extra step when swapping OSes. Activity LEDs on the front would also be a welcome touch, and an easier way to align the incoming CF card would be super welcomed (you have to align it with bars on the side of the slot or it... doesn't go ... Startech IDE to CF adapter
I had to repair an old "job specific" computer. It had a 6.4GB hard drive. I used this adapter and a 8GB CF card and restored a ghost image to the CF card. Worked great, it's faster and I can get some more life out of old hardware. $aved money.
