    Factory new, but not ready to use

    The product is offered as factory new. This statement is correct! but it lets you assume it is complete with all screws + trays to mount hard drives. Yet it is missing all these, including the external power supply + System SW. Well, to make it a usable product, it requires a lot of add-on search + purchasing, even if you happen to have a bunch of suitable hard drives laying around. It is a compact box to setup a compact NAS, but users might get a better deal if they buy one of the also discontinued HP home (HP data vault, HP media smart) servers which offer 4 drive bays and can also be configured like a NAS.

    Very inexpensive option for total backup and file server

    This is the fifth one of these I have deployed in various locations. Great alternative to a USB drive in that this has the RAID 2nd drive, when installed, and can totally operate on your network without need of a computer. Great for external drive for file and computer backups, also works great as a music server location for stored files. Newer versions are available but at a cost many times this product. Home Run as far as I am concerned.
