About this product

Product Information

In writer-director Frank Darabont's THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover in the late 1940s. However, only Andy knows that he didn't commit the crimes. Sent to Shawshank Prison to do hard time, Andy--a taciturn banker in the outside world--has to learn to get by in the brutal, cutthroat confines of prison life. His quiet strength slowly earns the respect of his fellow inmates--most notably, Red (Morgan Freeman)--and even much of the prison staff. But Andy's seemingly stoic acceptance of his unjust imprisonment hides a fierce determination for freedom. This beautifully crafted movie features touching and sincere performances from the entire cast, with an uplifting message about humanity's indomitable spirit and the redemptive value of hope. Based on the novella RITA HAYWORTH AND SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION by Stephen King, Darabont's intriguing adaptation is easily one of the finest films of the 1990s.

Seller went above and beyond the normal shipping and communication process that I've come to expect from most sellers. They sent pics of items the day it was mailed in and outside of the package. I was pleased to see that they even protected the Inside of the items as well. Great communication and I'll definitely be buying from them again in the near future. Great job & thank you so much Morgan!

    Great movie

A great well acted movie. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman both deliver superb performances about life behind bars in a Maine prison from 1949 through 1966. The challenges and suspense works well throughout the movie. Recommended.

  • One of the best movies of all time.

Anytime that I have ever asked someone if they liked this movie, they have ALL said yes. And I fully agree with them. This is the best acting I have ever seen by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. And that's saying alot considering they have both had numerous memorable roles throughout their respective careers. There are very few films where you become so involved in it that you actually feel like you yourself ARE the main character, but this is one of those films. It is easy to relate to Tim Robbins character. It is easy to cheer him on through out this movie. And the friendship that he develops with Morgan Freeman's character is very powerful. A friendship that everyone on earth should experience. This movie has a deep message but is still fun to watch. It has a little bit of everything ...

  • Don't be Misled! Not a typical Stephen King movie!

There are no ghosts nor strange goings on in this movie, which illustrates prison life and its effects on its inhabitants. We have Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins in a memorable performance), falsely convicted of murder, who meets up with various prisoners, some of whom are forgettable and others are timeless. The most unforgettable is Red (Morgan Freeman), who smuggles in items for the prisoners like a Sears-Roebuck catalog, and James Whitmore, the librarian with the pet bird that grows into a huge hawk. Then there is Hayward, the prisoner who checks out Dumas' "Count of Monte Cristo" from the library and refers to the author as Dumb Ass. But what is so unforgettable about this movie is the theme of "hope"--hope to get out of prison mainly. But what happens to the prisoners when ...

  • A Must See!

This movie is about a man named Andy. Andy is a banker that is charged for a murder of his wife and her lover. He knows that he didn't kill anyone, but insted sent to jail for life. As the movie goes on, you find out things about Andy that will make you laugh, cry, and think. Andy also finds out something out about his wife's murder, that will make him a free man. But insted, a horrible twist happens insted. This movie has a wonderful cast that includes: Tim Robbins Morgan Freeman Bob Gunton William Sadler and many more great actors of our time! But, insted of watching with the family, rent the movie first. Then, watch the T.V version because in the first 30 min. of the movie, there are alot of cursing. But after that, there is about three more in the whole movie. This is a must have ...

  • A Great Movie was Here

In 1946, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a soft- spoken New England banker, is convicted of murder and shipped off to Shawshank State Prison in Maine, a maximum-security fortress packed to the gills with thieves, rapists, and murderers. The movie begins as a postwar Midnight Express, but it doesn't take long to reveal its true, feel-good colors. It's main star, a shouldering laconic-good-guy, a type of a Gary Cooper role, Robbins connects with the audience in a superb manner, in which you are constantly pulling for him throughout all of his difficult situations. In addition, Morgan Freeman, does wonders with the role of Red, Andy's prison buddy during his tenure at Shawshank.
