Estleman is one of the best writers around and he made me an instant fan with his Amos Walker series. Peter Macklin is ok where Walker's westerns are great. The man has range. Frames is a bit uneven for me. Valentino is or can become an interesting character. Like a new acquaintance we have been anxious to meet, he falls short of being the fully developed character that Amos is. Do we all expect too much? Probably just me. Unlike the majority of Estleman's work, Frames lags a bit in places. Perhaps on re-reading things will smooth out. I like the guts it takes to stick a fantasma or two in the story. All in all Frames is a good read. I'm looking forward to the next Valentino story. He's worth taking a chance on and Loren Estleman ranks right up there with Wodehouse, Salinger, and Hammett ...
