About this product

Product Information

This beautiful book focuses on Laurelton Hall, Louis Comfort Tiffany's extraordinary country estate in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. Beginning in 1902, Tiffany (1848-1933) designed every aspect of the immense home, which had eighty-four rooms and eight levels, and extensive grounds into which the house was carefully integrated. Tiffany's residential masterpiece was also a quasi-museum, for he filled it with his own works--windows, glassware, pottery, enamels, lamps, oil paintings, and watercolors--as well as with objects from his collections of Islamic, Asian, and Native American art.Laurelton Hall burned down in 1957, but about ten years earlier most of its contents had been removed and sold. Every aspect of the estate is examined and re-created in this volume: its terraced gardens with fountains and pools; the many outbuildings; and Tiffany's life there. The interior decoration of Laurelton Hall, a particular focus of the book, is represented by both numerous period photographs and newly commissioned color photography of surviving artworks and salvaged architectural components from the estate. For all who admire Tiffany and his work, this book presents a unique portrait of his remarkable home.

Was sent the wrong item. I ordered a CD and I received an LP instead. Two different places on the description said that it was a used CD in good condition. When I emailed the seller about it I got a generic reply telling me that they would get to it when they can and that if I send a second message it will just delay the process. That is terrible customer service. If they have time to send me an email message at all then they have time to initiate a refund or to answer the question I asked.

The book arrived in a plastic envelope with not protection and unfortunately it looked like the book was damaged in transit because of it. The items original ETA was April 18th but arrived on April 22nd. I requested a refund after seeing the quality of the book and the seller responded with a full refund and an apology for the quality. I really appreciated the customer service but was sad to see the book not in the quality described.

My sincere apologies, the item was not what I expected, (to NO FAULT of the SELLER at all.) It came in good condition however, I must’ve of misunderstood the description, I thought the names would be transliterated into English, but it's in Hebrew. I thought it would give the Hebrew meaning to the name/ places. Also I noticed that the dust jacket was different than the advertised photo. If I may, I'd like to request a refund please and continue my search... Kind regards.

  • Lovely book about Tiffany's home Laurelton Hall

After going to the Charles Morse Museum in Winter Park, FL, as well as the MET in NY to see the Laurelton Hall pieces that they had restored, this book was a perfect book in detailing the gorgeous home that Tiffany had built for himself. The photos are just wonderful and the book shows the architecturial as well as artistic flare that Louis Comfort Tiffany is so famous for in his glass, interior design, as well as jewelry pieces. I thought this was a perfect book to have after seeing Tiffany's fabulous art work in person. This book is focused exclusively on Laurelton Hall which was Tiffany's home in Long Island and the pieces that he had for this lovely home, not his general collection of work.

  • The rich may live well but the poor have less to take care of.

Tiffany made Laurelton Hall sculpture one can live in. It's a lesson that we can all have an intimate connection with art in our daily lives. The value of something has little to do with price.
