The movie Jack made fun of
I finally got to see The Horn Blows At Midnight, the movie Jack always made fun of....and Marilyn Monroe said "oh Jack it wasn't so bad"...in my opinion it wasn't so good...the movie is B&W not color and obviously a low budget movie since the backgrounds, props, are repetitious through out the movie...special effects were pretty good considering the movie is over 60 years old. Unfortunately the laughter one would expect to experience watching a Jack Benny movie just wasn't there for me but I smiled a lot...I'm sure people with an extra sensitive funny bone might laugh... but to me the intended humor in the movie was predictable and more than likely funny to the people of its era but out of date today (I'm sure some would disagree with me). The cast was really good...I'm not going to the ... I was pleasantly surprised and relieved the movie was only about one and one half hours long, some old movies can drag on for a couple of hours which can be a painful experience...I must admit my attention span was drifting toward the end of The Horn Blows At Midnight... I suspect some of the stunts in this movie were borrowed and added to future films, check out the ending of this movie and It's A Mad Mad Mad World...and you will see what I mean (don't want to give it away). I did not buy this movie expecting a lot...and I doubt I will watch it again... but I value its significance in the American Film Industry and happily add it to my ever expanding film collection.
