About this product

Product Information

"They deftly bring together findings from many disparate areas of science in a book that science buffs will find hard to put down." -- Publishers Weekly Science has worked hard to piece together the story of the evolution of our world up to this point, but only recently have we developed the understanding and the tools to describe the entire life cycle of our planet. Peter D. Ward and Donald Brownlee, a geologist and an astronomer respectively, are in the vanguard of the new field of astrobiology. Combining their knowledge of how the critical sustaining systems of our planet evolve through time with their understanding of how stars and solar systems grow and change throughout their own life cycles, the authors tell the story of the second half of Earth's life. In this masterful melding of groundbreaking research and captivating, eloquent science writing, Ward and Brownlee provide a comprehensive portrait of Earth's life cycle that allows us to understand and appreciate how the planet sustains itself today, and offers us a glimpse of our place in the cosmic order.

Super impressed with this seller! They had the best price by far for this book! Both the cost of the book and the shipping fee was far better than average! The book came exactly as described, it was well packaged and quite a bit earlier than expected! The seller was polite and replied quickly to my messages. I’ll definitely make another purchase soon! Thank you to the seller! Be safe and keep up the great work!

WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • An Atheist and An Agnostic Affirm Truth!!!

Ward (an atheist) & Brownlee (an agnostic) both come to the conclusion that life is in fact very special & rare in our universe. Typically the media hypes up that NASA has found "water"!; hence life "MUST" be there, etc. This is a classic example of affirming what people already believe, versus using the scientific method and discovering the truth & drawing reasonable conclusions from it. The fact remains there are hundreds of factors involved with sustaining life (aside from originating it!) and these men do an admirable job at showing the different variables involved. Some have branded them "creationists" in disguise; however, they are, in fact, very open about their religious convictions (check it out yourself). I HIGHLY enjoyed the book! The academic integrity is refreshing and ...
