About this product

Product Information

This little-known theatrical adaptation of the infamous TITANIC story was made in Germany circa 1943. The director, Herbert Selpin, was arrested during production by the Gestapo, and was later found dead in his prison cell. The film was subsequently banned by the German censors who balked over its scenes of panic and terror. The film went on to become something of a Holy Grail for film aficionados, and can now finally be seen in all its glory.

  • The best part is after the ship sinks

As a fan of all things Titanic-related, I had to have this film. Like almost all movie versions, this one adds characters who did not exist and romances that did not happen. However, this is minimal compared to other versions. The major interaction, before the sinking, is between two real-life characters, Bruce Ismay (President of the White Star Line) and John Jabob Astor, wealthy businessman. Although it is fact that Ismay wanted the Titanic to make the crossing as fast as possible, by most accounts Ismay ignored warnings because he truly believed the Titanic was unsinkable; in this version, he is calculating to the point of evil, knowingly endangering lives and scheming to cheat on his girlfriend, all in the name of profit. John Jacob Astor is similarly portrayed as money-grubbing ...

  • Poor from the playback perspective

The movie it’s self was good, looking at it from a historical standpoint however, we had mechanical issues with the DVD playing smoothly in our DVD player.

  • TiTanic

It was good for its time though very fictitious because of being made by Hitler's 3rd Reich during WWII.
