About this product

Product Information

In this spoof of Hollywood blockbusters, director and screenwriter Craig Mazin (THE SPECIALS) tackles the age-old story of a regular guy who suddenly finds that he possesses super powers. Ricky Riker (Drake Bell) is a typical teenager, except that his luck is worse then most. Basically, he's a loser. He's been in love with beautiful Jill (Sara Paxton) for years, but is sure she doesn't know he exists. Even his techie best friend, Trey (Kevin Hart), is willing to throw him over for another clique. But Rick's life changes dramatically when a genetically enhanced dragonfly bites him during a school field trip. In a flash, he becomes the Dragonfly. He can scale buildings, and has immense strength--though he's still a klutz. Rick isn't sure he has what it takes to be a superhero, but it's up to him to save the city from the villainous Hourglass (Christopher McDonald), who literally sucks the life out of people, and threatens to harm those dearest to Rick.Mazin, who was one of the screenwriters for both SCARY MOVIE 3 and SCARY MOVIE 4, spoofs a gamut of superheroes, including Batman, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Marion Ross and Leslie Nielsen appear as Rick's Aunt Lucille and Uncle Albert, and a multitude of stars appear onscreen, albeit briefly, including Tracy Morgan, Regina Hall, Simon Rex, Craig Bierko, Pamela Anderson, Robert Hays, and Nicole Sullivan. Miles Fisher is particularly amusing as Tom Cruise, and Brent Spiner plays Hourglass's sidekick. Stick around after the credits start rolling for some additional footage.

  • Passes for a "Movie"...

...but let's be honest here, "Superhero Movie" is really just a series of gags, sex jokes, and farts that share the Superhero theme and are strung together by a gooey bonding substance otherwise known as "scenes" that exist just to set up another joke or one liner. That's probably why it barely clocks in at 80 minutes, but with the shallow feel and lack of true inspiration, the producers may have actually done us a favor by cutting it off early, and frankly "Superhero Movie" feels like it ran out steam by about the 30 minute mark leaving us to endure the rest so it can be called a "movie". How selfish. I haven't seen the recent rash of "Date Movie", "Epic Movie", "Disaster Movie", and so on because none looked terribly funny to me and they were coming out faster than the films they ...

  • Superhero Let Down

Over the years there have been parody movies of all genres. From your horror parodies to your romance and major movie parodies it would seem as though movie makers would have hit something major with a parody completely dedicated to the Superhero genre. This was not the case. If you enjoyed the later movies of the Scary Movie franchise there is a chance you will like this movie, but I won't guarantee it. Each joke, as it were, seems to progressively get lamer as the movie moves along. You start caring less for the movie plot and just hope the movie will end soon. This is one of the few movies I have seen in recent memory that I started staring at my watch 10 minutes into it. I would not recommend this as a purchase to anyone, a rental at the very most, but save it for a half ...

  • Surprisingly Funny

Curious and willing to give it a shot, I kept my expectations low when renting this movie (many similar 'spoof' films were not that good). However, I liked this movie enough to add it to my home collection. It has highs and lows like most movies (some genuinely funny laugh-out-loud moments and a few gags that fell flat) yet I found it entertaining and enjoyable overall. It really helps to be familiar with the Spider Man movie, which is the basis of this spoof. Leslie Nielson in in comic form, and Marion Ross (of Happy Days fame) is surprisingly cast. If you don't appreciate silly, zany, off-the-wall or slap-stick humor, this isn't your movie.

  • Don't even bother with this one

I expected more from this movie since the Director did Scary Movie 3 & 4 and I really like Leslie Nielsen (Police Squad and Many more films). However the reality is the movie is not even remotely funny. It is all the same old jokes and gags as any other spoof film only none of it made me laugh (I did laugh once but it was over the stupidity of the gag, not that it was funny). The movie was not entertaining and it mainly centered around the Spiderman movie. There is nothing new and certainly nothing to entertain. If you must see the movie, rent it, or borrow it from someone you can give it back to when your done. This does not belong in a collection it belongs the trash. Rated 1 of 5 for obvious reasons (Too bad I cannot rate it a 0)

  • It had some funny moments for a grade d movie

It arrived in good playable shape.
