  • The Price of Glory by Alistair Horne (1993)

This paperback book boughht on eBay was in excellent condition. It has fine black and white photographs. The Price of Glory is the second book in Alistair Horne's triology, The Fall of Paris, The Price of Glory, and The Fall of France, 1940. Interestingly, as Horne write in the preface of this book, The Price of Glory, his Fall of France was written first. He then felt the need to investigate the origins of France's collapse in May, 1940, and ended up studying the battle of Verdun in 1916. Not content with this he goes back to the Franco-Prussian War, and writes a book on the seige of Paris by von Moltke, the Elder, and Bismarck, and the succeeding uproar of the Commune. All three books are great reading for people who love history. The Price of Glory stands by itself as a compelling read ...
