Can you find less expensive alternatives? Always, but sometimes it just pays to go with a product that has been researched and developed to do exactly what it says. I bought the "best selling/rated" alternative and the performance reminded me of that age old saying, "You get what you pay for". When I finally tired of waiting for results, I purchased the Strivectin and have been pleased ever since. I use less product per application, it soaks almost immediately into my skin and the results have been quicker. I have been using it to reduce the scarring after my double hip replacement.
