A little aged but not dead yet.
While this is an older model, that fact keeps it in the value priced range. The interface (and supplied documentation) are poor, however a little time invested in working with the docs and camera do pay off. The image quality is quite good, the trigger sensitivity seems just fine as well. It's a little disconcerting the first time the IR LEDs light up as they are clearly visible to the human eye when seen directly, but there is no visible 'red' beam cast. I've not had it long enough to comment on battery life. All in all I'm pleased with the unit and would recommend it.While this is an older model, that fact keeps it in the value priced range. Using the M-40i to track panthers and wolves
I own about a dozen Moultrie M-40 and M-40i game cameras. I use them to observe wildlife in Florida and Minnesota. I see the usuals. In Minnesota I see deer, bear, wolves, coyotes, red and gray foxes, turkeys, bobcats, grouse, and everything else that walks past my cameras. In Florida my cameras see turkeys, bobcats, panthers, otters, sandhills, coyotes, hawks, feral hogs, deer, bears and the occasional skunk ape. Most of these cameras are reliable, but 4 so far have stopped taking pictures almost immediately after they were set up in the field. While other cameras in the vicinity may have taken 500 photos, the defective cameras have taken 6 to 12 and then stopped alkmost immediately after they were set up. Because I do not get back to check them often, that means many weeks without ... I own about a dozen Moultrie M-40 and M-40i game cameras. I use them to observe wildlife in Florida and Minnesota. Moultrie has a serious triggering problem with this model, The problems shows up in too many cameras, and although I have owned Moultrie cameras since 2005, I have never encountered this problem in previous models. When working, this camera takes fine pictures. The programming options cover a wide range of field photography needs. The photos are clear and sharp, both day and night. But Moultrie needs to fix the triggering problem.

Infrared, and higher resolution smaller
These cameras can only be seen at night with night vision that would detect the I.R. capabilities. The trigger is faster than other models (.3 sec.) and is about half the price of some of its competitors. This makes it a bargain. One, two, or three shot bursts with good video as well as still pictures day and night.
