About this product

Product Information

The Sims franchise embarks on an island-themed adventure with The Sims 2: Castaway. Players can create one to six characters, customizing their appearance, personality type, occupation, and more before setting sail, getting caught in a storm, and becoming shipwrecked on an uncharted island. After awakening on a deserted beach, your character (or party) must attempt to survive and eventually explore three adjacent islands. Specific goals to complete are documented in books strewn across beaches, jungles, caves, mountains, and other areas. Tasks range from making fires and acquiring tools to building structures and finding lost treasure.

Along the way characters will learn new skills and gradually change in appearance. If not properly cared for, characters can lose weight, wear out clothes, grow scraggly beards, and more. While the bulk of play involves gathering resources needed for survival, including fruits, shells, plants, wood, chickens, and other items, characters are encouraged to learn more about the islands and their inhabitants by venturing out into the unknown. Dangers include wild pigs, storms, starvation, and other surprises. Offering a more open-ended design than in previous Sims games on consoles, Castaway grants players the freedom to either live on the island or to escape to the familiarity and comforts of modern civilization.

    Love this game!

I am a Sims fan, so not surprising that I love this game. I read alot of bad reviews ahead of time about the Wii version. I will say after previously playing it on ps2, the Wii controls are a bit more complicated. Definitely still easy to manage, and I am not a gamer. I really like the whole stranded on an island concept as well. Overall I definitely recommend this game.

  • Don't cast away this sims 2 castaway!

You can really specifically customize each sim. I made my first sim as I have been for years and years, named after me, same skills, same interests, same looks (ha!) but when i was getting ready to start game, could not use that one for my main sim! why!? A lot of gathering. A lot of exploring. I am a little confused as to where I am on the island without a map! The gameplay is not that clear, and the tasks are realitivity easy to complete (no trial and error). Love the idea I can fast forward through everything tedious. I will play for a bit longer before making my mind up. But so far... So good!

  • The Sims 2: Castaway (Wii)

The Sims 2: Castaway (Wii)-this is a great game if you like the Sims. This game is far more creative than the Sims 2 for Xbox. Maybe it is the whole survival angle. The fun starts with creating your Sims and designating a captain. Then comes the ship wreck and you find yourself alone on a tropical island. You have to survive somehow, find the crew, if they're still alive and get rescued. You get rewards, make friends with the chimps! It is really lots of fun. There is one limitation or flaw, if you will, you can only save one game at a time. You are not able to have multiple saved games going for different users or players.

  • Sims Castaway

Castaway might just be one of the best iterations of The Sims 2 on consoles yet. To be fair, Castaway has a lot of the same features as The Sims series. You create a custom "sim" character with certain vocational skills and personal needs (such as hunger, fatigue, and social interaction), but this new game takes a creative approach to the use of these features. Rather than build a small group to live the life of a nuclear family in the same house, you create a crew of castaways who end up shipwrecked on a tropical island and must make a new home for themselves a la Swiss Family Robinson. To that end, you'll guide your characters to collect driftwood and other building materials, along with various wild fruits and vegetables to eat (some poisonous, some not). You'll also catch fish with a ...

  • How much driftwood can you hold?

Good, addicting - many layered game - endless versions are possible. When I read that many would muddle their way through this simulation once then they get rid of it, I was surprised because this can be played over and over again with each outcome being totally different. One does get tired of picking up everything in site and also having to eat eat eat! The mundane tasks of survival take up a lot of the time, slowing down the game - but I guess that's the nitty gritty world of real survival.
