Build your own hip-hop empire from the ground up in "Def Jam: Icon" for Sony PlayStation 3. EA Chicago and Def Jam Interactive joined forces to create this awesome game. The basic idea is to build a lucrative hip-hop label through fighting and business. A three-dimensional PS3 fighting game, "Def Jam: Icon" is the third title in the Electronic Arts series of games that is licensed by Def Jam itself. The music and action are mixed in a way that makes it different from the other PlayStation games within the Def Jam group. It also includes more detailed environments. While the previous PS3 games in the series emphasized wrestling, "Def Jam: Icon" is more about street brawling. The 28 playable characters in "Def Jam: Icon" throw and block strikes, including punches and kicks, and generally go at it hard in the fights. The visuals are highly realistic. Players create combination attacks using up to four separate moves. There is an emphasis on learning from the visual fight cues given by opponents. Details such as ripped clothes and bruises add to the visual richness. Injured fighters bleed and demonstrate exhaustion. A variety of settings, some from real-life locations in Atlanta such as night clubs, gas stations, and subway stations, serve as locales. The story element of this PS3 game is called "Build a Label." Players first create their protagonist using a mock-up of an FBI wanted poster. From there, the main character is thrust into a number of scenarios. These include rescuing a famous rapper from an obsessed fan, helping out fledgling rappers for a music producer, and assisting rappers who are friends in brawls. The premise of this PS3 game is set in a brief "Two Years Earlier" prequel sequence. Rappers from the real world of rap, including Big Boi, Ludacris, and others, appear in cameo roles. Players manage money, make decisions on whether to do specific rappers favors, and buy clothes and jewelry. The soundtrack playing during this PS3 video game is interactive and synchronized with the locales and action. Hubcaps twinkle in time to the pulsating beat and bullets fly to the bone-crushing bass. The fight sequences and play are linked to the soundtrack. For example, when a particular character's theme song is playing, his punches have more force. A beat-detection feature allows users to check songs and further mesh their movements with the soundtrack. Essentially, matching moves to beats leads to more effectiveness. There are 20 songs to choose from by rap icons, including Ghostface Killah, Fat Joe, and Jim Jones. Cheats and codes allow players to access two particular songs. All songs are changeable and can be matched with environments according to player preference. The sometimes graphic lyrical content of the songs is totally uncensored. This game combines the elements of compelling storylines with traditional fighting sequences. A player starts from the bottom of the rap industry and works their way to the top, allowing players to manage some of today's most successful rap stars and brawl their way toward becoming an industry powerhouse.

The box was a little bit broken at the bottom, this wasn't mentioned in the listing but it isn't terrible so I can live with it. A positive experience overall as everything else was fine.

In Great Condition for the price!!
Welp iam disappointed with the game itself, its fun and all but geta boring after a few hours, and man is it hard to figure the controls out but other than that its worth the price And Maan was the disc super clean and in great condition too 👏 i thought for sure it would have some deep scratches for the price but it only had one scratch on it.

PS3 picks up where PS2's "Def Jam" series left off with, in my opinion, the worst game in the bunch. It's too bad because I liked "Vendetta" and "Fight For NY" for their focus on fighting and the storylines built into career mode. Still, "Icon" takes the fight off the streets and, instead of working for a gang leader, you're working for a record executive and, when summoned to do so, getting tossed in the middle of "family" rivalries to clean up after. Anyway here's the good news and bad news about this particular title. Where It Throws it's Punches: It's certainly an entertaining game; maybe even needlessly humorous at times, mostly because it takes itself so seriously (You want to sign a new rapper to ... Bust the cop's head in [because, in reality, that would really work out so well]). The idea of switching up entrance songs is kind of alright, as is switching up fighting styles and the idea of switching tracks in the middle of the fight (I know how to "scratch" the tracks but not how to change them yet). As with all fighting games in this series, the environment around can be your best tag team partner...or your greatest adversary. Where It Take Its Hits. The controls for the game are almost impossible to remember and even more difficult to execute. Every fighting style has its strengths, sure, but the weaknesses in most of them, especially late in the game, take precedence. The mechanism for changing songs in the middle of the fight was a cute idea (along with changing entrance songs too) but it too is just too complicated for me (mine was used and didn't have the book with it). As previously stated, I preferred the storylines in the original two games because it focused on the "fighting" aspects of the game. Also, the selection of rappers ("fighters") in the game didn't impress me very much. Ah, well. It wasn't for me but I'm not a hiphop listener (I got it for the good storylines of the original two and for the fighting aspects). Still don't let me dissaude anyone. It is what it is and what it is is fun enough for at least a first look.

This game definitely brings back so many memories! The soundtrack and the fashion that’s within the game definitely says 2007. Sure the game isn’t Def Jam: Vendetta and Fight for NY, but it’s definitely a fun game to play. The only I wish they would’ve done was add trophys or achievements for the PS3 and XBOX systems. But I’ll definitely buy the game again

The description said minor scratches but they were a little deeper initially the game didn’t work past the first few missions it would freeze in the same spot but after and cleaning it’s worked fine ever since
