Product Information

Electronic Flash EF-500 DG SUPER is designed to work with both AF 35mm SLR and Digital SLR cameras of popular manufacturers, for advanced flash photography. It has a maximum guide number of 165 in feet or 50 in meter at 105mm focal length (ISO 100). The projection angle of the flashlight is set automatically to match the lens' focal length ranging from 28mm wide-angle to 105mm medium-telephoto. It also incorporates a built-in diffuser that expands the angle of illumination down to that of 17mm lens.For bounce flash it can be tilted 90° upwards and 7° downward for close-ups. Also it can be swiveled 180° to the left and 90° to the right. It incorporates "modeling flash" mode to provide proper light distribution to check the shadow of the subject. The multi pulse flash features enable reduced power setting from 1/4 to 1/128 in 6 steps and the pulse frequency of the flash can be set from 1Hz to 199Hz. EF-500 DG SUPER incorporates wireless TTL flash photography, slave flash photography, and FP flash photography (synchronized with high shutter speeds). In addition, manual flash also can be set at 8 output power levels. The covering focal length of the flashlight can be seen on the LCD panel, and a flash ready signal can be seen in the viewfinder. The EF-500 DG SUPER also incorporates auto power off system.

    KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING!

    KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING! Althopugh I have problems with this flash I give it no less than 4 stars overall. This is why: I originally purchased this for my wife's Canon XSi. I quickly found out (to her joy and my dismay) that this flash will NOT WORK on some of Canon's more advanced and recent equipment. I own a T3i and discovered that while the flash would work fine with my T3i on MANUAL, it did not otherwise communicate with my camera's ETTL-II. I emailed Sigma support (who BTW is VERY good at responding to customers) and they confirmed that this older model may not work as expected with later model Canons. Actually, it apparently WORKS GREAT with earlier Canon DSLR's. So b/c of its performance with earlier Canon models and b/c of Sigma's product support folks, I give it a 4.

    Good Flash

    This flash is great with just two flaws. One is that the flash has just a little wobble when it is mounted to the camera. the other is that you need to make sure that every time you turn on your camera you go to the camera menu and select ADI flash. This will help with concistancy as I noticed that sometimes the exposure would be off till I manually selected ADI. Other than that for the price you will be thrilled. The built in diffuser works perfect for fill flash and the bounce flash make natural looking photos taken indoors. buy it if you can!

    I decided to buy this flash for off camera use. so far i've only used it to test it. i believe it is a good flash, although, i can't really test it thoroughly, and the manual doesn't help much. it does work off camera via cord. it has manual mode, and ettl on camera. unfortunately, there is too much to learn, in so little time of writing this review.
