  • Solid performance, with a couple of quirks.

Pretty pleased with this mic, although I generally prefer omni lapel mics. It has a nice crisp response, on a range of voices. Something I didn't know, but can affirm now: apparently most condenser mics with both battery and phantom power perform better with phantom. I tried this mic first using battery power, and was quite disappointed. But using phantom, it's sounded pretty good. Completely subjective, but there you go. Also, probably because of the cardioid pattern, I found this mic more susceptible than others I've used to random blasts of breath from nose-breathers! It doesn't like the wind, but on one person in and indoor interview, I was getting bad wind-noise from nose-breathing... will know to add the foam next time.

  • Excellent item, brings out the fine nuances of acoustic guitar tones like non other I have used.

I have used multiple microphonic and pickup systems in my guitar playing and nothing reproduces the sound of a guitar quite as good as a microphone. This one performs the task in spades. Clear concise sounds. Separation of tones and musical nuances that make using it a joy to use. Others sound more muddied and with less clarity and response. I bought a second one!!!

  • Good but big

It's a high quality Audio-Technica microphone the only downside is the mic is almost twice the diameter of the AT899, making it more visible, but it doesn't come with the $200 price tag of the AT899. Its also heavier which pulls a little more on clothing its clipped to. The power module is a box instead of the longer narrow tube type. But all in all I'm still happy with it.
