About this product

Product Information

The Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift is a near-standard focal length lens with an extra innovation featuring three adjustments rarely possible on a single-lens reflex and traditional film-type cameras. These are tilt, shift, and rotate, and they help correct perspective distortion while you view the picture you are about to take so that you take better photographs. For example, they will make sure that the horizon is always perfectly horizontal. They also add amazing possibility to your pictures when you play with the depth of field and aperture. They allow the photographer to produce images with a more extremely diffused background and incredibly sharp and highlighted subject (extreme bokeh) by opening up to a wide aperture of f/2.8, which is achieved when the camera lens is significantly tilted. Using these features selectively keeps objects in or out of focus in the picture for practical and artistic effects. Photographers are also able to capture effects like vignette shadowy frames around the edge of their shots in cameras, rather than adding them as a filter later in Adobe Photoshop. Pictures can look hypo-real or surreal yet somehow true to life. There are many artistic possibilities if you are prepared to be adventurous and experiment in manual mode. Although they are not macro specific, you are able to focus on objects as near as 40 centimeters away. The floating system and rear focusing give sharp and stable delineation from 0.4 meters to infinity. The 45-millimeter length is ideal for capturing interesting yet true to life perspective and you are able to get that really deep depth of field we’ve been boasting about. This might be used for capturing deep landscape into a mountain range or forest, or capturing full-length portraits of kids playing or colorful characters in the streets with their surrounds artistically blurred. Adjustments can be used individually or simultaneously to alter the relationship of the optical axis of the lens to the sensor. Both tilt and shift setting adjustments can be prevented or allowed by tightening or loosening a small captive lock knob opposite the respective tilt and shift adjustment knobs. The Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 tilt-shift can also rotate. A small release unlocks up to 80 degrees of rotational movement. There are detents at 30-degree increments and positive locks at 90-degree increments. The filter diameter is 72mm and the lens diameter is 81x90.1 and the minimum aperture 22. These piece of photographic technology was made in Japan and are made not only for long use but also for collectability. The Canon TS-E’s movements are perpendicular to each other. However, many photographers ask Canon Service to modify this to get even more extreme results. It may also be possible for a repair shop or expert to do this.

Almost exactly as described. Great condition, basically brand new. The box was a little worn from multiple openings and the shutter count was at about 100 shots. Not a big deal in the long run and still a perfect condition camera. Shipping was prompt and extremely well packed. Highly recommend the seller.

  • Top favourable review

Canon 45mm TS lens is an excellent design lens introduced to the market in 1991. .

Excellent lens for my purposes. I was in the market for a used standard focal length lens with tilt and shift functions. The lens is super clean. I’ve kept it on the camera since my purchase.

  • Top critical review

    Expected result not achieved

Visually, the lens is good, but optically not. The photo taken with the lens has no contrast. The image is smoky. For pictorialism, photography is OK, but for classic photography it is not acceptable. The lens has been taken to a service center. I am waiting for the result of the solution of the problem. The sharpness is not so best. There are green aberrations. There is also focusing free movement, which is acceptable for a used lens. But it can be classified as a MINT lens.

  • Very useful, pretty high quality lens

Tilt-shift lenses are amazingly useful tools. 45mm is also a very useful focal length, particularly with the expanded depth of field available with the tilt feature. I like to be able to use wide angle, mid-range normal (which is what this lens is), and telephoto TS lenses. This particular lens, the Canon model, is well put together and quite sharp. I don't think it's quite as optically excellent as the Nikon model, but if you shoot a Canon body, you don't have much choice and it is capable of professional quality images. I've been using it on a 5D MKII body and getting pretty decent results. There is way more CA than I would like and it's a hassle to remove it from every shot. Also, the corners are not quite up to par. But, all in all, it's the ...

  • Excellent Perspective-Correction

A tilt-shift lens brings back the experience of using a view camera to correct keystoning and other optical problems. One can also use a tilt-shift to create selective focus areas for creative effect. Manual focus allows greater control of precise focus.

  • Nice lens if you get it cheap.

Not a bad lens. I mainly want it to blur backgrounds, so f2.8 is nice. Not the sharpest, but decent.
