Reviews
Dr. Eben Alexander's near-death experience is the most astounding I have heard in more than four decades of studying this phenomenon. [He] is living proof of an afterlife., " Proof of Heaven is more than just an awe-inspiring account of a profound encounter with spiritual reality. Dr. Alexander's neuroscience career taught him that near-death experiences are brain-based illusions, and yet his personal experience left him dumbstruck. His honest struggle to make sense of this unforgettable journey is a gripping story, unique in the literature of spiritual experiences, that may well change how we understand our role in the universe." -Bruce Greyson, MD, co-editor of The Handbook of Near-Death Experiences: Thirty Years of Investigation, "Eben Alexander brings a unique perspective to the sacred world combining a glorious, personal vision of spiritual consciousness with patient, insightful scientific inquiry. Proof of Heaven is a compelling story of what may lie ahead for all of us in the life beyond this one. We have nothing to fear." -Allan J. Hamilton, MD, FACS, author of The Scalpel and the Soul and Zen Mind, Zen Horse, "Dr. Eben Alexander's near-death experience is the most astounding I have heard in more than four decades of studying this phenomenon. [He] is living proof of an afterlife." - Raymond A. Moody, M.D., Ph.D., author of Life After Life, "Dr. Eben Alexander's near-death experience is the most astounding I have heard in more than four decades of studying this phenomenon. [He] is living proof of an afterlife." - Raymond Moody, MD, PhD, author of Life Beyond Life, "I can highly recommend this important book that has the potential to break many scientific taboos." -Dr. Pim van Lommel, cardiologist, author of Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience

Synopsis
The #1 New York Times bestselling account of a neurosurgeon's own near-death experience-- for readers of 7 Lessons from Heaven . Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. A highly trained neurosurgeon, Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander's own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion--and in essence makes us human--shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then, as his doctors considered stopping treatment, Alexander's eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander's recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere. While his body lay in coma, Alexander journeyed beyond this world and encountered an angelic being who guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. There he met, and spoke with, the Divine source of the universe itself. Alexander's story is not a fantasy. Before he underwent his journey, he could not reconcile his knowledge of neuroscience with any belief in heaven, God, or the soul. Today Alexander is a doctor who believes that true health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of personal existence but only a transition. This story would be remarkable no matter who it happened to. That it happened to Dr. Alexander makes it revolutionary. No scientist or person of faith will be able to ignore it. Reading it will change your life., The #1 New York Times bestselling account of a neurosurgeon's own near-death experience-- for readers of 7 Lessons from Heaven . Could not be happier! WellPriced , great communication, carefully packed and mailed quickly. I have sound so many other sellers here especially of Franciscan Ivy are totally unrealistic in their pricing and are OUTRAGEOUSLY absurd in their shipping costs. (And SHAME on eBay for NOT regulating it). This seller has my business!! THANK YOU!

    Proof of Review a quickie

I enjoyed this book about the author's NDE (Near Death Experience). When people experience the phenomenon known as NDE they have either been revived from a cardiac arrest, or in the case of this author they had been in a coma. The author is a neurosurgeon so he is quite familiar with what goes on in the human brain. The Author Dr. Alexander before his experience was an diehard atheist, as are many scientists and doctors, so his story is not like most of the other NDE stories that preach and praise Jesus though out the book. After his experience his views on what happens to us after "death" changed drastically. I don't think he considers himself a "Christian" or "religious" but he has grown "spiritually".

  • Technical but interesting (and a relatively short story). Worth buying used.

The author writes with depth of scientific and medical knowledge, which for many people is a bit above their understanding. I'm in the medical profession so I understood most (but not all) of it, but I see how it was important for him to be clinical so people would understand that his experience was being viewed both from the human side as well as from a purely scientific side. I sensed his struggle with trying to describe his experience, which was apparently otherworldly and magnificent beyond mere human words. How would you explain to an amoeba the intricate beauty of, say, Beethoven's music and have the amoeba understand? It would be as difficult as Dr. Alexander's attempt at describing things he saw while in his coma (and having us actually understand and envision it). The human ...

  • Proof of Heaven. Appropriate for NDE description of non believer.

I was comforted by the NDE described by the author. It was consistent with another book I read, Embraced by the light that narrowed down that our existence here and there is all about LOVE if you have to come up with one word. That this was the main takeaway from both stories, years apart gives credence to an afterlife and what we are doing here while we wait to go back. That was another common thread, that we have existed before life on earth and will exist again.

  • This book is OK, unusually written by an inexperienced author.

I saw the author interviewed on The 700 Club, decided I wanted to read it because it's written by a healthcare professional. It wasn't easy to read, the author clearly has no writing experience. I enjoyed it mostly, but he had problems with describing his experience so he used "odd" words for areas/things that he experienced. I probably wouldn't recommend it. I like "Ninety minutes in heaven" much better (for personally written afterlife experiences).

  • Read it in page order or his accounts of the spirit side won't make sense.

When I was in college an RA got sick with viral meningitis. On Friday he had a headache and by Sunday was dead. If you don't have personal experience with just how nasty meningitis is you may not appreciate the struggle Eben Alexander went through and how unusual his recovery was. The book is a tough read. Eben is telling 2 stories at the same time, what was happening out of body and what was happening with his family and in the hospital. You need to read this book in page order and pay attention when he mentions what he saw out of body, because he uses names and phrases to try and describe things that he had no experience with on earth. His amazement at seeing there is more to life than the physical is understandable considering his scientific background. The refusal to ...
