Quirky but great.
Bought this game when I was a kid and decided to get it again to re-live some memories. Honestly, this game does a lot while also taking the simple routs in things, likely due to developer budget and utility access. The graphics are really really poor for the most part, but makes up for it by playing to its own faults. As far as the story goes, it's a little slow to start but picks up quickly as you continue to play, becoming more and more compelling as the game continues on. The story never forgets old components and characters, and comes up with unique ways to include them into the story in the later parts of the game, thankfully it never feels like a re-use of bad story telling, which you get a lot of with newer games today. Just like I remembered it (an enjoyable dinosaur monster-collector)
I've been craving to play this game again, its a childhood staple of mine. A really fun monster collector that dinosaur fans and Pokémon fans will enjoy. The graphics are beginning to show their age, but still quite impressive for DS standards. Battle mechanics are a fun take, different from Pokémon but kind of refreshing. I recall the campaign being decently long and entertaining. Though heads up, one of the main gameplay features works best with a working DS/3DS microphone to blow into. My favorite thing about fossil fighters is how bad the overworked graphics are, giving this game a very retro feel. The vivosaurs are better designed and detailed than the overworked, giving cute and creative monsters to play with. For a B-rated game, this has a beautiful plot line and is full of cute puns and characters. A lovely game to play if you like Pokémon and/or dinosaurs.
