About this product

Product Information

One of Charles Bukowski's best, this beer-soaked, deliciously degenerate novel follows the wanderings of aspiring writer Henry Chinaski across World War II-era America. Deferred from military service, Chinaski travels from city to city, moving listlessly from one odd job to another, always needing money but never badly enough to keep a job. His day-to-day existence spirals into an endless litany of pathetic whores, sordid rooms, dreary embraces, and drunken brawls, as he makes his bitter, brilliant way from one drink to the next. Charles Bukowski's posthumous legend continues to grow. Factotum is a masterfully vivid evocation of slow-paced, low-life urbanity and alcoholism, and an excellent introduction to the fictional world of Charles Bukowski.

  • If you're going to read, go all the way. Otherwise don't even start.

Once you start page one, you'll quickly realize this book, like all of Bukowski's work, is made from anti-gravity materials. ..It's really hard to put down.

  • Factotum by Charles Bukowski (1975)

Another well-written Bukowski book, although not nearly his best work. Bukowski fans will greatly enjoy this novel, however for first time Bukowski readers I would reccommend "Ham on Rye." Overall, I enjoyed it, and easily related to the "down-and-out" protagonist, Henry Chinaski, as well as his feelings of apathy, mistrust, and general disgust with his the human race.

  • Great book for the working folk.

    Great book

  • Factotum

I bought this book because I had recently seen the movie version of it. I also am a Bukowski fan. I wanted to compare the book to the movie. It is a little different, but the movie stuck by the book fairly well. The condition of this book was brand new, which is nice, since I take care of my books. This book will definately be a part of my permanent collection.
