THE BEAUTIFUL, THE BLODDY AND THE BARE begins as a seemingly innocuous nudie-cutie, with Leo and Mona running a school for nude models in New York. When their friend Pete returns after a two-year sojourn in Northern Italy, they look beyond his disturbing tales of the local practices he encountered there-most involving self-mutilation-and offer him a job as a nude photographer. Evidence of Pete's apparently traumatic experiences abroad is at first held in check, manifesting itself in his exaggerated fascination with Carol's red hair and Linda's red nail polish. But when Linda cuts her finger and Pete catches sight of the blood, he can restrain himself no longer, and goes on a killing spree! None of the models are safe from Pete, and ultimately, neither is Pete!Terry and Ann are a pair of swingers whose car breaks down mysteriously after a party in BEHIND LOCKED DOORS; the unattractive but seemingly solicitous Dr. Bradley takes them to his house to call for help. Once there, however, the girls are forced to become the new test subjects of the Bradley brother-sister team of "researchers," as the Doctor is on a quest to find "the perfect love mate." Should they refuse their to help, they will join the ranks of those unfortunates on display in the cellar!

Historical interest-- as to how far we've come
Things used to be less sophisticated than they are now, and in the mid sixties nudity was just breaking into "arthouse" and mainstream theaters. Much of it was poorly done, excuses wrapped around the scenes without clothing. That more or less defines "The Beautiful, the Bloody, and the Bare" as the title movie and as the budget pack. The extras are more entertaining than the main "features" on the disk, and good to use to establish context, but "--in the most Boring Manner" could be added to the title for full disclosure. If the nudity were cut out the title feature would be a ten minute short, and badly panned. The absolutely cheap way the titles and credits are done, the lack of synch sound in most of the movie, and a plot that is more lacking than there-- it makes you wonder, and ...
