About this product

Product Information

Blues/rock duo The White Stripes emerged from the fertile musical breeding ground of Detroit with a strong, brittle sound, and an image to match. Virtuoso guitarist Jack White and his sister/ex-wife (the actual status of their relationship has been a constant source of excited debate among fans and the music press) Meg made two albums before WHITE BLOOD CELLS scaled the charts in 2001, having built up a sizeable live following on the indie rock-circuit. Their follow-up album, ELEPHANT, consolidated their position, with the red-and-white clad couple taking to the road for more exhaustive touring, which saw them playing to an ever-expanding fanbase. This concert was shot in Blackpool, England, and is culled from the ELEPHANT-era. Among the 26 career-spanning tracks are a cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene," as well as original compositions such as "Black Math," "Hotel Yorba," "Seven Nation Army," "I Think I Smell A Rat" and many others. The band has a penchant for using vintage equipment, and neatly complements this by arming various filmmakers and fans throughout the crowd with old 16mm and Super 8 cameras, adding an appropriate visual counterpart to their retro sound and image. As always, the band look and sound amazing, with the expectant crowd matching their exuberance and egging the band on throughout, resulting in a venerable performance from Jack and Meg.

  • Great concert DVD with great music

This is a good concert DVD. It is just that though, a concert DVD. There are no backstage antics or stories to go with it. It is just The White Stripes playing a great concert. The song selection is tremendous, and the energy they play with is extraordinary. The video looks grainy at times, but that is to be expected coming from Jack White. It looks like a concert filmed in the seventies. It looks authentic. The sound is all 20th century though. It isn't rough, the crowd doesn't overpower the music, and it sounds very good. Plus there are a few little Easter eggs hidden in the DVD that are kind of cool to pick up on. Overall, it's one of the best concert films that I've seen.

  • Feels like Im under the lights

Every show by The White Stripes is something to behold. Some even collect bootleg shows and now the band is no more...it makes this dvd shine even brighter. Meg and Jack rip the set and leave a gritty performance with some witty words by Jack between songs keep the show even more enjoyable. The camera work is good for the most part, and some detailed cinema is worked in, even though in a fast paced show. The songs are from earlier days, White Blood Cells and the like, so it will please the more hardcore fan. Performance wise it was epic, Jack dazzles on the strings and Meg beats down the bass, it is what the Stripes are AMAZING. The disc is great but if you want a more initmate concert feel...buy it..fast! And if you want a more cinematic go with Under Northern Lights. Both great films, I ...
