Notes
Double vinyl LP pressing. Digitally remastered and remixed edition. Arguably Sinatra's greatest ballads album, Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely, has been newly mixed in stereo by Larry Walsh at Capitol Studios. Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely (1958, also known as Sings for Only the Lonely or simply Only the Lonely) consists of a collection of torch songs, following a formula similar to Sinatra's previous albums In the Wee Small Hours (1955) and Where Are You? (1957). Sinatra had planned to record the album with arranger Gordon Jenkins, with whom he had worked on Where Are You? Since Jenkins was unavailable at the time, Sinatra chose to work with his frequent collaborator, Nelson Riddle.

  • Sinatra's 60th Only The Lonely 2 Lp set is something you must experience for yourself!

I am referring to the new 2 LP stereo vinyl issue here. I own both MFSL vinyl issues, the MFSL mono release on CD, the Larry Walsh original CD master which was my go to, mint original Capitol LP's in both stereo and mono, and truth be told this is now my favorite of all. This is stereo as it should be, without any severe panning from left to right for the orchestrations, it's clean down the middle which created a very realistic sounding audio ambience. I think that's true to the original, but even the original is not up to par with this. You feel that you are right there in the middle with the orchestrations, while Frank's vocal is up front but not too up front, and there is some subtle reverb that sounds like it was just what the acoustic property of the studio produced. I was very ...

  • Unbelievable masterpiece from an American icon

I had never heard any of these songs and now I find a new depth to Sinatra of which I was completely unaware as a casual listener. I just wanted a Sinatra album to play on my turntable as I was building a collection so I grabbed this one because of the price. I have been blown away by the brilliance of these moving, melancholy songs and the superb performance from Sinatra. This is a must listen. This 2016 version of the album has been remastered in stereo and this recording shows how advanced Capitol was at the time. It is a stupendous record and a great pressing. I think it's impossible to overstate how excellent it is and that you should own it. Your turntable wants to play this record whether you know it or not.

Beautiful album for any Sinatra fan and for those discovering just how magical he was...this is the album for you! Great set list and wonderful orchestration by the masterful Nelson Riddle, If you HAD to pick 3 Frank albums to own, this should definitely be one of them!
