About this product

Product Information

A ferocious firebreathing dragon terrorizes the sixth-century English countryside, but the kingdom of Urland is strangely at ease--the king has made an evil pact with the dragon, offering to sacrifice virgins twice a year in exchange for peace. The unfortunate victims are culled from the kingdom's poorer families, but when the king's own daughter is next in line, a powerful wizard (Sir Ralph Richardson) and his youthful apprentice (Ally McBeal's Peter MacNicol) are called in to slay the dragon using their arsenal of magic and sorcery. Blending moody atmosphere, realistic set design, stunning battle sequences, and an absolutely terrifying dragon, DRAGONSLAYER stands out as the best of all the 1980s dragon films.

Love this movie for years. I was real happy to have found it in DVD. I had it on VHS for years but obsolete. Great copy in very good condition. Thanks.

    Dragonslayer

This movie is kinda okay. It's got a good plot, but it takes too long to get to the point of the movie. Also acting is slip shot, meaning that there's times it's good. Then it is looking really poor. If you like fantasy movies it's not that great, but it's not too bad either. But that's my opinion, if you decide to go and get it. You might be sure you can return it. If you don't like it. In other words it depends on your taste.

  • Dragon Slayer

I remembered seeing it at a younger age and remembered it quite fondly. I still enjoyed it, but it seems no longer an oasis in a desert without enough fantasy (Lord of the Rings and derivatives corrected that), so it was less overwhelming in its need. Still, the characters remained great, and the conflict between the humans as to whether to kill the dragon or sacrifice to it seems like a great parable to something. There is a scene that needs to be censored for American kids (It is my theory that since movie violence is fake, even if ketchup seems to be gory, it is okay for kids), since it does contain nudity. The DVD I purchased was without any bells or whistles of special features, so one should ask the seller about that if one cares about that. It is definitely worth getting if only to ...

  • Best in its Genre

The high water mark for all Dragon films and for sword & sorcery for that matter - it was eclipsed in 1981 by Raiders of the Lost Ark and baffles most Disney fans for its PG rating. It’s a classic , it highly re-watchable and the inventive SFX still hold up. The pacing is not contemporary but for those who enjoy immersive experiences with great characters, a rich feeling of authenticity and mounting tension, this can’t be beat.the design for Vermithrax Perjorative set the bar high and arguably you don’t have the excellent dragons of the Hobbit film or GOT without her.

  • Not your avrage Dragon Movie

I am not a Sword and dragon kind of movie person. But then this is not your average Sword and Dragon movie. For those that are looking for a Dragon movie it may not be your cup of tea. There is a historical realism to this movie that has nothing to do with Dragons. The acting is mixed, some good some not so good. Our hero being the worst of the actors, while the villain, (Not the dragon) surprised me. The graphics are not that great, but the story really holds it all together. This is not a five star movie, but for an afternoon just to relax and enjoy, you can't go wrong. This is one goes with other movies like. "The Bride, Fire Walker. Monster Squad, Legend and the Last Starfighter." Not great movies, but fun movies, regardless of your age. And, sometimes you just got to have a ...
