  • Very serious look at Arthur from his early days to the end. Well made!

This is a classic, unique venture into the world of King Arthur and Merlin. It is a serious film full of action, suspense and realistic portrayals of King Arthur's court. The armor depicted and the costumes were original, innovative and the best I've ever seen in a film of this genre. I particularly enjoyed seeing the extra neck armor used atop the shoulder pieces as this made a great deal of sense. The sound effects and editing - especially during the battle scenes, was excellent. Again, this is a serious, dramatic and sometimes dark rendition of the King Arthur legend. It follows Arthur from when he was just a squire to the bitter end. Heck, it even begins with the actions of his biological father, Uther, in keeping with the original story. Very well made, easy to ...

  • Great movie!

This is the classic King Aurthur movie. Knights, swords, lust, magic, & religion are all on display as the story of King Aurthur (Nigel Terry) is shown from his birth to his treacherous death at the hands of his son Mordred (although Arthur manages to take Mordred with him). Captain Picard, I mean Patrick Stewart is also in the film as one of Arthur's knights (King Leondegrance) who was the first noble to ally himself with Arthur when Arthur acquired the sword Excalibur. Merlin (Nicol Williamson) is an interesting character - shown both as a maipulative schemer but also one who wants the best for Arthur and the people of England. Lancelot's lust for Guenevere and her affair with him threaten to destroy the kingdom, and leads to the search for The Holy Grail of ...

  • These older movies from the 80's are so much better then modern day films!

Well!...I certainly got this movie for quite an unbeatable deal! At over 30 years old, practically anyone who ever was interested in this particular movie genre has seen this film multiple times and with over 47 reviews, there really is no need for me to write any type of review whatsoever! So then,I will get right to the point!!!..."Great Movie", "Gorgeous Costumes and Scenery", 1000 times better then any of the C.G.I. Garbage that modern-day Hollywood seems to pump out weekly! I would recommend this film to anyone! My only gripe was that there were no real bonus extras in the DVD other then the original trailer and director's commentary. I really would have loved to have seen a documentary on the film making and possibly some deleted scenes! Other then that, it ...

  • A well done, and entertaining movie

I am not an authority on Arthurian legend, so my review is based on limited knowledge. Nevertheless, this movie seemed to me to be the best I have seen to tie many different aspects of the legend into a coherent whole. There were many entertaining parts; I really liked the scene where Arthur as squire to Sir Kay, can't find Kay's sword; he sees a likely candidate for Kay- the sword in the stone! What follows is endearing, funny, and dramatic. But I thought the more tragic aspects of Arthur- the betrayal by Guenevere and Lancelot, the seduction by Morgana, the end with Mordred- although well done, cast a pall on the story. And yet, at the end, when the sword is cast into the sea, and the Lady of the Lake retrieves it, I get goosebumps everytime! The director shot that ...
