The 2010 MacBook is a great deal for someone who wants a powerful mac.
Overall, this is a very nice MacBook. The CPU isn't the best, but none 3 generations behind will be, but it's still decent for video editing in Final Cut Pro and music in Logic Pro, although it's not as good as a new MacBook with an i7. The graphics processor is very nice, allowing you to do light gaming and 3D modeling. The current Intel Integrated graphics in the MacBook airs are just now slightly better than the 320M. It runs SolidWorks, Blender, and even Minecraft beautifully. The hard drive is slow though, its 5200RPMs, so I replaced it with an SSD and it is magnificent now. I use windows in bootcamp on this macbook for my engineering job, as well as some 3D animation on the side, as well as Music and Video editing in OS X, and it fits the bill perfectly. In order for you to get the most out of it for the longest amount of time, I suggest replacing the hard drive with an SSD and increasing the RAM to 8GB (Apple says it only supports 4, but it actually supports 8). But all in all, it's a great laptop if you want a semi-powerful mac that isn't $1299.
Updated to OS 10.11.6
Excellent value for money. The MacBook Mid 2010 is to replace an old one with a cracked hinge being used to record the sermons at church. I ordered it because it has the same hardware that allows the versatility of swapping the head phone jack from output to input in System Preferences allowing me to record directly into Audacity (a recording software) from the church sound amplifier. The Original MacBook 2010 has 8 GM of RAM, but, The installed 4 GB of installed RAM in this one handles the recording with no problem. You might be wondering, if both are identical why not swap the RAM. Simply put, even with the cracked hinge, the old one is perfect for sitting in my recliner and connecting to the internet. The laptop was restored to factory settings. Though the MacBook was listed in eBay running OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan) it was running the original OS: No problem After setting it up with my information, LAN , Airport Extreme PW and my Apple ID and PW it was a 2-2 1/2 Hr download over our internet ISP connection.
Expensive, but worth it because they work
Apple computers are certainly more expensive than their PC counterparts, but they are worth it. Everything works together because Apple designs the hardware as well as the software. Also, many publication and video production programs are written natively for Mac, meaning if you get the PC version, you're getting a translated version. Macs have also been proven to be faster than PCs. An underrated benefit of owning an Apple is having access to the Apple Genius bar. With my last Mac, my computer got a rare virus. I took it to the Apple store where a genius took more than an hour with me to eliminate the virus. Try that with a PC. My biggest problem with Apple products are the cases. The polycarbonate case on this one had cracks at the hinges. Apple replaced it for free, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. The case on my Dell laptop at work is far tougher. I don't like the aluminum cases either because they scratch easily.
Great! Worth the money if you want or need a cheap, stable, and Mac laptop!
I bought this because I wanted to downgrade from a huge 17.3 hp laptop. This is my FIRST Mac and first transition from a Windows PC. I like how the system runs really smooth (after adding more RAM). At first, it was a bit slow due to the lack of ram (2gb). Later on I put in 5gb, and it runs so fast now. I get about 4-5 hours of battery life. It's a bit heavy though for a 13 inch, but nevertheless still much more portable than my previous 17.3 inch HP laptop. I recommend this laptop if you aren't willing to sacrifice thousands of dollars for an Apple product but still want the security and stability of the OSX Apple operating system. Would not recommend if you edit videos a lot, you would be off with a macbook pro i5 or i7, since it would be speedier. This laptop, however, is fine for typing research papers, browser, youtube, social media…
MacBook a bargain
This is the last model year for the white polycarbonate MacBook and it is at this point quite a bargain. It will run the current MacOS very well although I would recommend at least 8gig of memory (that much memory is very inexpensive right now). I did install a 240gig SSD (again, really very inexpensive at this point, I paid $69 for mine). With this combination I don't really see any issues. The battery life (even used) is very good almost 7 hours continuous runtime and it's easy to replace it if need be. Screen is very bright, sound is very good all in all a great way to run the current MacOS without breaking the bank!
