The first non-Halo title developed by Bungie Software in more than a decade, Destiny incorporates MMO elements into FPS action set 700 years in the future, long after a massive, mysterious orb known as The Traveler entered the solar system, drastically altered the climates of Mars, Venus, and the Moon, and set off a new Golden Age of human exploration and colonization. But The Traveler's ancient enemy soon followed, laying waste to nearly all of civilization and leaving the benevolent orb hovering in low orbit over Earth, protecting only the land beneath from attack.
Society rebounded in the protective shadow of The Traveler, creating one last great city, and fighting a number of wars to keep that city intact. These battles gave rise to the Guardians, warriors capable of harnessing some of The Traveler's power. Players take on the role of a Guardian, protecting the last city from attack and exploring long-lost civilizations on Earth and its closest neighbors. Gamers can create and customize their Guardian, choosing from the cyborg Exo, ethereal Awoken, and Human species, and then selecting from the Hunter, Warlock, and Titan classes. Species type affects only physical appearance, but each class has specific skill trees, abilities, weapons, and subclasses.
Destiny is optimized for multiplayer action, but solo gamers can still take part in the majority of the integrated campaign. Accompanied by their AI robot Ghost, players set out to discover the remains of great Golden Age civilizations, exploring the dangerous frontiers of Earth, traveling through subterranean labyrinths on the Moon, cutting through the lush jungles of Venus, and visiting massive Martian skyscrapers now buried under the sand. As gamers explore the solar system they will collect resources to upgrade their weapons and gear, and confront a variety of powerful enemies, including the zombie-like Hive, the time-traveling Vex cyborgs, the hulking, heavily armed Cabal, and the six-limbed, humanoid Fallen.
Multiplayer fans have a variety of options in Destiny, including arena-based PvP action in Crucible mode, and the co-op Strike mode, in which three gamers team up for short, structured adventures. Destiny also includes the Tower, where the perspective switches to third-person, and players can change their equipment, join factions, and form alliances with other gamers. Public Events offer the global community random challenges, while those seeking an end-game experience can take part in six-player Raids, which are designed to be extremely difficult and time-consuming.

You need this to play any future Destiny expansions on the PS4. FUN FUN game that you can play mostly SOLO, but SOCIAL interaction with others in a Fireteam or SOLO in a PUBLIC EVENT in the game is highly suggested. Also PVP content either SOLO or on a TEAM. This include ALL previous expansions to the game, not just Taken King. Taken King version grants a free, one time, one character, LEVEL UP INCREASE to level 25 to help get started playing the Taken King content (weapons, missions, storyline, etc).

Great graphics, but the need to be online only really saps the fun out of the game for me. I am just a casual gamer and don't like the online aspect (probably cause I am so bad at it) The game is ok, but after playing it a few times, really don't feel compelled to do so again. What were they thinking with no campaign mode?

Crap story, but a lotta fun
Strengths of destiny: Supporting character voicework by greats such as Nathan Fillion and other famous celebs Land speeders! Hand Cannons! Kills with one shot! Satisfying precision kills. Different AI scripts and enemy design create dynamic encounters. Shoot and kill a floating 8ball that uses pink lasers Environments are so pretty. Venus Hot Springs! Craters on the moon! Etc. Lots to do and frequently updated! Cool co-op experience. Matchmaking for raids and strikes. Weaknesses: Story is blah! Go around! Kill other races because you're the "light" people and they're the "darkness". Very little critical thinking ("Uh, guys, should we really be doing this much genocide...?"). For example, there are at least two or three scenes where you shoot aliens who are praying, like...yeah. Supremacist much? Your character is revived from centuries of death-sleep, and gets right back on that killing game with little questions. Again, critical thinking is next to nil. Some important characters aren't well developed. There's a mysterious stranger who is like...oh...ok...she tells you to go places and you follow obediently. Your Ghost companion is sometimes really vapid (e.g. "I wonder how all this stuff looked before the Collapse" - no, you don't mindless automaton), and sometimes really insightful (e.g. "Remember when ______ was our biggest problem. A lot has changed" when you go through a recycled environment and see a destroyed boss) Isn't gravity different on other planets? No, not in Destiny.

Really fun shooter, fresh take on futuristic warfare!
Destiny - the first good futuristic shooter for Next-Gen consoles. I think this game is fantastic. You can play cooperatively with friends in quests to try and better your character and his/her gear, and you can also play against other players in death match and objective-based modes. The latter is standard, the former a great concept to have in shooters. The replay value is about a 4/5. It does take time and patience to get the gear you want and rank your character up. Unfortunately, much of the new gear you can get is randomly generated for you... So you may acquire 4 sets of boots you don't even need. However, there is incentive to play harder difficulties to try to get better gear. Once you rank your guy up to a certain point, the replay value diminishes... You find yourself replaying missions and quests you've done 20 times before. This game MUST have an online connection to play, which is good and bad. It's good in the sense of community and playing with friends or even strangers, but just okay if you're just trying to have a purely story-based shooter game... But what shooters are like that these days? Overall, this is a really fun game. It plays sort of like Halo, but with interesting powers and abilities to keep things fresh. Better than Call of Duty Advanced Warfare in my opinion.
The game has a very deep story and it's very addicting to play you can get lost in this game for hours if not days just building up your character and trying to explore the story. There are many theme packs of mini expansions that goes deeper into the story. I can't wait for the new DLC to come out this September
