This is a very nice production

The operetta is filmed in stunning indoor a settings. The costuming is colorful, striking and appropriate. The score is beautiful, but very different from the Merry Widow. The singers are very good, and their acting is entirely believable. If you are expecting a filmed "stage play," you will be delightfully surprised when you discover this is more like a movie version of a play. (E.g., "My Fair Lady") It is very well done

Der Zarewitsch

This 1973 German TV production of Lehar's operetta Der Zarewitsch has been long overdue for a DVD release. The presentation is opulent-- leads Wieslaw Ochman and Teresa Stratas are very convincing vocally and visually as the young lovers who are doomed to part. I especially appreciated the English subtitles. Sound and visuals are excellent. Stratas' speaking voice is dubbed by someone else, but the lip-synching is good.

Der Zarewitch

This DVD was bought as gift for someone who loves some of the arias of this operetta. It is not a life theater performance but was filmed with the singers and actors lip synchronize to the prerecorded music. The singing and orchestra are quite good and the Russian dancing scenes are spectacular. For lovers of Lehar this DVD is a must
