Good programmer for Arduino Pro Mini, 3V and 5V selection, using USB Mini (not Micro) port.

good serial driver, pins marked clearly, can do 5v or 3v vcc on output. I use to program Arduino Pro Mini, which lines up perfect with the 6 programming pins. I also paint a green dot on the DTR edge of the connector, so I dont mix it up when attaching to the Pro Mini. If you put upside down it won't program the chip. NOTE: This is the USB *mini* port which is older, not the more current *micro* like you find on most phones. At this price I"m sure it's not an authentic FT232, but it works fine in Linux Ubuntu, and Mac OS.

Issues with flashing esp8266

Lots of random issues flashing the esp8266 wifi module. It literally took 30-40 attempts to get one good firmware uploaded. The issue was it seemed like it was loading OK but the firmware was corrupted so it couldn't run. I would not recommend this because it just was too hit and miss. I would spend just a little extra and get the genuine FTDI chip with someone else.

Works well, easy to use.

This is a really common USB to TTL (uses FT232RL) so it has USB drivers for any host. It can also be used to power 5V devices, but not 3.3V. It breaks out the 3V3OUT from the chip's LDO, which supplies a maximum of 50mA overcurrent protected.

Serial port replacement item

If you ever needed to do some raw data transfer, this is the item you looking for :) I've need to flash the router (jtag) and this was the perfect solution for that purpose. I'm not sure if the tx/rx label was wrong on the item or on the router, but nevertheless changing the wires did the perfect job. So this item is very recommended.
