|This film adaptation of GREASE is the zippy smash hit translation from the Broadway musical tribute to the fabulous 1950s. As a new school year begins, wholesome Australian exchange student Sandy (pop star Olivia Newton-John) and duck-tailed, leather-jacketed Danny (John Travolta) parlay their summertime romance into an on-and-off attraction that may or may not cross clique lines. Sandy seriously cramps Danny's style, so he dumps her. In response, Sandy begins dating a wholesome athlete, but, as a hedge, she also joins the gum-chewin', tough-talkin' clique known as the Pink Ladies. One of the most beloved musicals of all time, the popular soundtrack includes "You're the One that I Want," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Sandy," "Summer Nights," and the title tune.|

Grease is Forever
This movie is a classic rendition of a long running Broadway play. John Travolta, already a star from Saturday Night Fever, and Olivia Newtown John, who rocketed to music stardom after a string of hits, make this timeless movie a classic forever. They play high school boyfriend-girlfriend in the days of Elvis, when old cars were important to teenage boys, and hair and sleepovers were important to high school girls. It is a trip back in time musically enhanced with lots of famous songs, including the title song, which was written for the movie. Stockard Channing is also great in a supporting role as the leader of the Pink Ladies, a harmless gang other than the gossip they produced. Jeff Conaway, who was in the Broadway cast as John Travolta's part now plays his best friend. This movie has great songs including "Beauty School Dropout," "You're the One That I Want," and the title song. This movie, being based on the longest running Broadway play, is every bit as good as its origins.
Timeless movie that is easy to watch multiple times
I fondly remember both Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in this timeless classic which grabbed my heart back in the late 70's. This movie is easy to watch time and time again and contains fun, musical numbers and lots of actors who went on to become big television and movie stars. Randal Kleiser helms this musical and his fondness for John Travolta was seen in the earlier "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" which I also enjoyed tremendously. Kleiser also directed "Honey, I Blew Up The Kid" and later the "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" short which is playing many times a day at the Universal Studios amusement park ride. I enjoyed seeing legends such as Eve Arden, Frankie Avalon but also the future stars such as Jeff Conoway who later went on to act in the series "Taxi". Tons of fun, lots of laughs and plenty of good lessons to be learned from this never-ending-hit.
Grease is the word! Its got a groove. Its got a meaning
I have loved this movie for as long as it has been out. I used to be a little John Travolta when I was a kid. Dancing to Greased Lightning was what all the kids were doing. It was also a cool way of getting away with saying bad words in front of your parents. (HA-HA!) Words that rhyme with IT. Grease also took you to another place and time. Things were more pure and simpler than today. This movie just has a way of making you feel good. I highly recommend it. Go out there and DANCE!!! GO! GO! GO! GO!go Gogogogogogogogo go greased lightning your burning up the quarter mile. Greased Lightning! GOOO GREASED LIGHTNING! Okay! I'll stop singing. But only if you go buy the DVD. Enjoy!
Great trip down memory lane
I saw "Grease" in the theater but never saw the Movie. I've been working on a Karaoke number from the show and wanted an inexpensive way to see the Original. I was delighted to find the 20th Anniversery editon included the words to all the songs in a booklet with the DVD. Plus the DVD had a way to select singular songs from the movie to replay. My husband had never seen the show, and when we watched it together we had a great time! Plus the girls I'm doing the karaoke number with, loved watching the original of the number in the show.
