|Director Steve Oedekerk (ACE VENTURA: WHEN NATURE CALLS) wrote, produced, and stars in this goofy spoof of martial arts movies, which he created by re-dubbing and digitally inserting himself into a 1976 Kung Fu film called TIGER AND CRANE FIST. Oedekerk plays The Chosen One (so named because of his magic tongue) who grows up in the wild after his family is murdered by the evil Master Pain--who later changes his name to Betty. Hunted and attacked continuously, The Chosen One eventually finds shelter at the Crane School, where he falls in love with a squealing maiden (Jennifer Tung) and figures out how to avenge his parents' death. He also encounters a woman with a very unusual breast, French aliens, an animated spirit father styled after THE LION KING, a martial arts-expert cow, and other digitally animated wonders. Somehow Oedekerk and Co. manage to wring a lot more funny moments out of the concept than one might think possible, and thanks to amazingly inventive editing and a gleefully juvenile sense of humor, the film never runs out of steam. There's even a threatened sequel: "Tongue of Fury." New exterior shots were filmed in Mexico. KUNG POW: ENTER THE FIST! is also known as THE DUBBED ACTION MOVIE.|

Extremely funny but some don't get it.
Like Monty Python movies, Kung Pow is a slapstick comedy. The movie is basically a mixture of two old Chinese martial arts movies (very cheesy) with over dubbed audio and video fill in for the main actor who interacts with rest of the characters in the movie. The movie was extremely well edited as well. The end result is absolutely hilarious, but only if you have a sense of humor. Wikipedia's definition of Slapstick: A type of comedy involving exaggerated violence and activities which exceed the boundaries of common sense. I've included this in the review because half the people I talk to about this movie do not like it. These people don't really have much of sense of humor though. If you're a stick in the mud then go away now and forever leave this place. But... if you are a funny person then you will like this movie very much. Just remember it is very much like Monty Python and is slapstick comedy. If you don't know if you are a funny person or not, then... you're not a funny person. But! you could always ask your friends. However, friends are known to lie in order to spare feelings... either way, you've been warned =D
Kung Pow is yet another reason why Steve Oedekerk is a comedic genius. He is the Star and mastermind behind this side-splittingly funny spoof of a seventies martial arts film. He used the old seventies movie as a canvas for this original, zany comedy. Some people hate this, probably because they don't like sillyness. If you like this movie, or anything that is awesome and also funny, check out Oedekerk's other works: Ace Ventura, Jimmy Neutron, Thumb Wars, Patch Adams, Evan Almighty, to name a few of his credits. In closing, let me say just one thing about this movie: At one point he reaches down a gofer hole, grabs two gofers, has them bite onto a rope, and uses them as gofer-chucks with which he beats many bad guys with! Complete with a close up of the gofers' face as it goes weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! in a high pitched voice. Need I say more? Yes, I do need say more: Watch this movie!
GREAT funny movie for young & old
I very much enjoy funny movies in the spirit of Airplane, Naked Gun, and Top Secret. In my opinion, Kung Pow is even better than any of those. Yes, the humor can be corny & silly, but also very original & creative. It's over-the-top like classic Monty Python. You really need to watch it more than once to catch all the dialogue and visuals, or you'll miss out on a lot of puns. There are a few scenes with elements of sexuality -- nothing too shocking by today's standards -- and some kung-fu type violence, but I think this movie is appropriate for at least pre-teens and older. I think I've watched Kung Pow half a dozen times already, & it can always be relied on to make me laugh.
Nostalgia doesn't make this movie better
I bought this movie off eBay because I remember that I used to love watching it when I was younger. When it arrived in the mail, I couldn't wait to open it up and put it in the DVD player. I sat on the couch and was waiting for those belly laughs I experienced back then. Sadly, I sat waiting for anything funny the whole movie. After rewatching, I found that it was just stupid. And before people tell me, "It's supposed to be stupid!!," there's a difference between "funny stupid" and "stupid stupid." This movie falls into the latter category. The whole thing is just juvenile. If you loved the movie as a kid, it might be a better idea to leave those memories in the past.
