I think that this was a very nice LEGO set to build, probably one of the nicest LEGO Star War sets I have ever built. The wings break easily, but if you are planning to use this for display, it looks great. Also, the Darth Vader mini-figure that is included is fun to play with.
Good for parent-child play.
I disassembled this and rebuilt it with my 3 year old who helped to press pieces together. Her fine motor control is getting a workout with the Vader figure bits. I added a third black connector cylinder to each wing’s docking point and it is more stable now. Would recommend going to LEGOdotcom and requesting two of those like I did. The missile shooters don’t fire as far as newer models so are safe and easier to not lose. It’s not so heavy either. A larger Vader TIE than you can get with most other later models (except the really nice expensive one.)

Very good for it’s time
I would definitely recommend for collectors and collectors only. This set is a classic and should be displayed or (gently) played with. Durability is a little lax because of the wing assembly being on two technic pins but besides that it’s strong enough for anything it will be enduring. The overall design in terms of accuracy is in my opinion a solid (6/10). I recommend the UCS version if that is an issue, in which case you will be paying significantly more money.

Lego Star Wars Episode IV-VI Darth Vader's TIE Fighter
My son wanted this for Christmas. I believe it is 251 pieces and it took a couple of hours to assemble. At the end there were a couple of extra duplicate small pieces, I guess in case you lost them. It's cool because it comes with a "guy", Darth Vader along with a red light saber. Completed, it is big too, with a hatch that opens and closes for Darth to sit in. It also has launching torpedoes that don't shoot very far. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the pins holding on the tie fighter's wings don't interlock hard enough to keep them from falling off when played with by a 6 year old boy and I was tempted to glue them on. I was able to tie a fishing string onto the center of the toy to pretend like it is flying on it's own. Overall we are both happy with it.
