SOMETIMES SEX DOESN'T SELL
Madonna surprised her fans and the music industry when she released the Erotica album and it's chuck full of nasty nuts. This soft-porn version of Madonna's idea of sexual adventures really falls short of sensual or sexy. If you like backyard dumpster sex then this is the album for you. Although this album has the stigma of failure attached to it, Erotica was quite successful and really is a great album- if you get look past the parental advisory (thanks, Tipper Gore.) Madonna's media blitz, a dirty book called Sex, a dirty movie called Body of evidence and the dirty album,Erotica proved to much for her fans, the American public and the music industry. It was Madonna trying to be sexy. It was Madonna and bondage. And yet we wondered why all this overshadowed her music, we just could't wipe ... Erotica is a great song, Bad Girl evokes pain while placing Madonna into that Good Girl/Bad Girl role. It feels pretty good being bad? Rain, Deeper and Deeper, Bye Bye Baby and Fever hold there own but are very forgettable songs. Most of the album is just that, forgettable and Madonna must be a little regretful of this whole fiasco and the whole sucking on a toe photo. It taught her that sex doesn't always sell,especially when it's fabricated sensuality and sexiness. Madonna, your just not that sexy.....

I wouldn’t classify myself as a huge Madonna fan, but I’ve always thought she had a great voice and I could always count on her to not to release the same style of music year after year. For me Erotica kind of fell through the cracks and listening to her catalog I noticed that I was missing this release so I decided to purchase it to complete my collection. The first time a listened to this CD my first impression was overall the CD was a bit long winded. What I mean by this is with only one exception all the songs are over 5 minutes in length. In many cases a song needs to be this long and unfortunately in the case of Erotica most of the songs could easily trim a minute from each track. Since I use iTunes and its rating (1-5 stars) these are my ratings; 1-star (1 song), 2-stars (6 ... I would say this is not one of my favorite Madonna CD, in fact it is one of the weakest in my opinion. Of the songs I do like would be “Thief of Hearts” which is a nice little dance song but lacks depth and is missing that spark that would make it an excellent song. Perhaps this has more to do with the production of the CD in general. The bass seems to be put too much in the background and thus the CD lacks that punch. With “Where Life Begins” I had to chuckle the first time I heard it, but must admit the subtle (or sometimes not so) way the sexual nature of the lyrics are very well done. “Bye Bye Baby” is my favorite song from the album (maybe because it’s under 4 minutes) but also because it stands out from the other songs which along with its nice tempo makes it my pick.

Definitely not her best but certainly not her worst...
I originally purchased this album on cassette when it was first released and I recently decided to get it on CD. 'Erotica' was never my favourite Madonna album and now I remember why. Out of the 13 tracks on this album, only 3 of them are really good. These 3 songs are the wonderful cover version of the classic song 'Fever', the catchy tune 'Thief of Hearts' and the deep and introspective 'Why's it so hard'. The other 10 tracks are rather mediocre. Madonna found out what people like to hear when she released 'Like a Prayer'. She should have continued to record albums of that style and genre. Older Style of Madonna Featuring "Rain" Very Good
I bought this CD because I like Madonna & her sexy style of music. The only song i wanted to hear was "Rain" which is still just as good as the first time I heard it. The other music is more hip-hop, funk & fun music. I really couldn't get into the other music and like I said I only bought it for one track. "Rain" is one of my favorites as it has feeling close to my heart. Though a great cd, "Like a Virgin" her first would be my most favorite album because she was so hot when she first came out. Oh, yes, the price was right!I bought this CD because I like Madonna & her sexy style of music. The only song i wanted to hear was "Rain" which is still just as good as the first time I heard it.
