About this product

Product Information

With a goal of fusing tension and drama found in movies with the game mechanics of the role-playing genre, the original Parasite Eve was Square's first attempt at creating a cinematic RPG; it was a commercial success, selling loads of copies to role-playing and survival horror fanatics. Because of the acclaim, the powerhouse development company did the only thing possible -- a sequel.

Before detailing the follow-up, here's some background: the plot of the original game dealt with Eve, a woman transformed into a killing machine by a life form known as mitochondria. The infected woman/monster went on a bloody rampage through New York City, destroying anything and everyone in her path. Assuming the role of a young police officer named Aya Brea, it was in the players' hands to solve the murder case and thwart the vile creature; the awaking of her mitochondria gave her the clues and prowess to stop the madness of Eve.

A few years have passed since the occurrences in New York. Aya Brea has joined the Federal Bureau of Investigations' Mitochondria Investigation and Suppression Team (M.I.S.T for short). After a series of strange incidents, the heroine is called into action and ordered to investigate the unfolding mystery once again. Human beings have begun transforming into hideous monsters known as Neo Mitochondrion Creatures; it is suspected that Eve is behind these bizarre events.

While the look and feel of Parasite Eve II resembles the original, it features revamped character models with facial expressions and motion-captured animation, pre-rendered backgrounds, an overhauled battle system and full-motion video clips for storyline progression; the in-game dialogue is presented in written form with text boxes. Spanning dust-ridden ghost towns, elaborate laboratories and ancient dwellings, monsters roam about resulting in survival horror elements and scares galore!

Whereas the original featured pseudo turn-based battles, the sequel's action sequences unfurl in real-time; you can dodge enemy attacks, run away or strategically decimate the opposition. Taking pieces from the sci-fi world, Aya Brea has been endowed with psychic powers and psionic spells including meditation, healing and offensive fire blasts in addition to conventional pistols and machine guns. Once the battle has finished, the heroine will receive two point awards: XP and BP. While XP points lean towards learning new spells (12 in all), BP points will have you customizing and buying weapons and items; enhancing weapons means purchasing or finding the right parts. Items include healing and effect-ridding canisters, different types of ammunition and important objects vital to the quest.

Along the way, Aya will come in contact with other characters including a bounty hunter named Kyle Madigan, a weapons expert named Gary Douglas and M.I.S.T agents Pierce Carradine and Rupert Broderick, all of which offer help and advice. Additionally, the various locations are laced with puzzles ranging from finding certain key cards to solving riddles and manipulating gears and pictures for the sake of progress.

A single-player experience, Parasite Eve II offers three different endings (depending on how well you do) and supports PlayStation memory cards for saving game data and the Dual Shock Analog Controller for analog controls and the vibration function.

A Hidden Gem and a Great Sequel

A really solid game, that largely went overlooked in it's time. The Gameplay is really fun with combination of fairly simple weapon play and upgrade-able parasite energy abilities. And the UI/item system is top tier just like the first game. It's more survival horror/exploration compared to the first parasite eve, which I really like and adds something fresh. A hidden gem, and I can understand after playing why it's so rare nowadays.

  • Game Hunter: Parasite Eve II

Well to be bunt the main reason I bought Parasite Eve II is that it’s a classic RPG for the Playstation game system. I had owned in years ago but traded it away, since then I’ve started my own collection of classic RPG’s for the PS1. The main thing I enjoy about the game is the deep story line, and with the multiple endings it has a high replay value. The only draw back to the game is that it’s rather short, my best time was being able to clear the whole game in only 3 hours (4 hours if I don’t skip side items). Over all the game is a great buy and it’s a great sequel to the first. I will keep looking around for the best deals on the best games, and this one was a lucky find.

  • Parasite Eve II: Survival Horror as seems never gonna be like again

Another great game by the hand of squaresoft Parasite Eve II (パラサイト・イヴ2) is a horror action role-playing game for the PlayStation. The game was developed by SquareSoft and published in Japan in 1999 and in both North America and, unlike the previous game, in PAL regions in 2000. It is the sequel to the PlayStation role-playing video game Parasite Eve and the second game in the series of the same name. It was criticised cuz the control system but they seems to had forgot that this is a RPG like horror, not at all an action game so it just merged the movement of the previous game whit a better perspective while playing than the most aerial view of the first one so it became more dinamic than the first and that was a grab for the resident evil fans and survival horror hardcore fans of this ...

  • Parasite Eve II: Perfect for mature (16+) players.

Parasite Eve II is a great follow up to the original. Does not matter if you played the first, this game takes several opportunities to give you information about what happened in the first game without truly ruining it for you if you play later. Like most early generation systems/games, the battle system and item screens seem somewhat cumbersome at first. However, there are lots of opportunity early in the game to learn these without being penalized. After becoming comfortable, their use is almost second nature and actually well organized. Like other games of this nature, there is some reduncy as you have to move back and forth between cleared areas in order to complete tasks to move on. This is not too bad except on one or two occasions where there is a bit more ground to cover and you ...

  • Love this Game

Game works great so far, have had no problems. Graphics are little blurred, I accredited this to age, but not so bad that I unable to see details. It was very much what I wanted so the value goes with out questioning. Worth every minute of cost and time. The no manual was no loss for me as I knew the game from pervious year and it still bringing joy.
