Bringing these two movies together was a good idea, as different as they both are. The acting and the casting are both top-notch. While Patch does give Williams a stage for both comedy and drama, it is this real-life depiction that is most inspiring here. It is both a see-outside-the-box challenge and a firm vindication of what the medical profession can be. Dreams May Come is a New Age foray into the afterlife. While it is essentially a gut-wrenching love story set amidst stellar special effects, its futuristic implications may leave some feeling either dissatisfied or confused. Patch is probably worth having, an inspiring tear-jerker, while Dreams might only be worth a single watch. Robin Williams shall forever be known as a man of comedy. However, his most inspiring performances come from his dramatic roles. Patch Adams is a relatively simple tale of a man who undertakes unorthodox actions to achieve immeasurable good in the world. Williams portrays Adams in a highly appropriate light: a genius who is modest about his intelligence and very open with everything about himself. What Dreams May Come is a stunningly beautiful masterpiece. The landscapes are fantastic and way beyond anything else that was produced in the late 90's. But this movie has more than just beautiful scenery, it also has a message about love and loss. Many movies have shown us people willing to forfeit their lives for their partners-this movie shows us a man so devoted to his wife that ... Robin Williams shall forever be known as a man of comedy.
