great features and cleans super good!
This is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. The only reason I gave it a four star is because of the wheeled base. We have a good quality carpet that is a plush. The unit requires extra effort to pull it when using the hose. On hardwood and other smooth surfaces there is no problem as it easily rolls along. My husband swept today and he felt if the hose were longer it wouldn't be necessary to move the unit every three feet of sweeping. I was thinking that if the wheels were larger it wouldn't be as difficult to pull. Again, this is an excellent sweeper other than the difficulty in pulling the vacuum on carpet.

Awesome vac
The rainbow is nice and easy to use. Got it in a timely manner , I spoke a little too soon on this vacuum cleaner. It worked well for about ten uses, then I tried to clean carpet and sprayer did not work. Next to go down was the bowl, it was a little cracked when I got it but then the rim fell off and now the clamp to hold bowl on won't clamp, so I can't use this machine. I just wish it was before my 30 days was up, I would have sent it back but oh well. They said they would send replacement parts so I am waiting now 2 weeks no vacuum to use at the house until parts arrive.

has to be the best house-cleaning system around
I was doing some research to find a new vacuum cleaner on Target.com. We have a busy household with lots of animals, and no matter how often I clean, my house always seems dirty. One customer had left a review of a small water-filtering vacuum cleaner, in which she said "Wish I could afford a Rainbow, but this is a good good substitute." I immediately wondered what "a rainbow" was, and went on that site. Once I saw these incredible machines, I knew I wanted one. But their whopping price tag, at over $2,000, was an obstacle. I immediately thought of ebay, knowing I would see various models, be able to compare features, get a good idea of the market for these and their prices, and eventually come to understand all the subtle differences -- and this is so important! -- that would help me find the right model at a price I was willing to pay. Within a month, I had bid on several models and was successful at winning a gently used Rainbow, plus its companion carpet cleaner, for about $800. The machine I got, the E-Series, is a few years old. It's quiet, marvelously engineered, and easy to use. To make a stupid car metaphor, I feel like I'm driving a Bentley for the first time, after driving a 10-year-old Toyota Camry that's lost its power steering. There's just no comparison to other vacuum cleaners. You can buy a new $150 vacuum cleaner every 3 to 5 years, or you can buy a Rainbow, which gives you far superior cleaning and a better experience doing the tough job of cleaning -- and not worry about spending another dime on a vacuum cleaner or stupid bags again for 50 years. (That's their guarantee!) In our horribly disposable society, I say invest in the best, and do it once. Ultimately, you save money, the environment, and your own sanity.
Rainbow eseries vacuum
A Rainbow is a little more effort to set up and use compared to an upright vacuum, however it cleans without foul odors, bacteria, or power-loss problems. Because the filtration is water, you can trap the tiny particles that escape dry filtration vacuums, including air-borne germs. My daughter has asthma and it really helps to have this machine. It is not usually healthy to breathe the exhaust from conventional dry-filtration type vacuum cleaners; besides most of them lose maximum airflow from the bag alone, let alone the dust plugging the pores of the bags or filters. With water you do not have these problems. PLUS, one huge advantage is being able to dump it out and see that your machine is getting the floor and air more clean with each use. (The water was real "muddy" at first when we'd been using the Kirby we had.) We absolutely love our Rainbow and enjoy its many uses. We can pick up spills fast and easy. It works extremely well on clogged drains, (however this is not recommended by the manufacturer due to the flammability of sewer gas I suppose, BUT it works super.!) It is not required to leave the HEPA filter in place, but if you do, dont forget to replace it every 18 months. Stay away from drywall dust or ashes. They will not absorb in water. The filtration efficiency is super on regular old house dust however; (which is what you use a vacuum for anyway). If you buy a Rainbow, clean the separator cone regularly, and never store it over the water-basin,and it will usually last for 20 or 30 years. I have owned mine since Jan 1998, and I liked them so well I sold them part-time. I also have serviced them for 9 years. If you get your machine cleaned every 4 years or so, it keeps it at its maximum efficiency. About the only parts that seem to wear are the belt and bristles in the power nozzle. Most people get about 8 to 10 years out of the hose, some much longer. They will usually take a set of motor brushes and a new water pan gasket at 10 years old. If they are stgrored over the water basin, it can corrode the lower bearing and motor gasket flange as well. This is only a problem if the consumer is breaking the rules. It is very common to see 20 and 30 year old Rainbow vacs selling on ebay for well over $200. I don't think you can find another brand with such high resale value and customer loyalty. It says alot about the machine. The SE model seems to outlast the later e series in maintenance issues but probably most due to negligence with the HEPA filter replacement. We threw ours away. You don't need it if you are not vacuuming non-wettable dirt; such as ash or drywall. GOOD LUCK, I hope this helps. Jason
Rainbow Magic
The Rainbow E2 (2 speed) is by far the best carpet cleaner I've ever used. Over 20 years ago I use to sell Rainbows door to door and was impressed with the quality and performance then. This new updated version seems to be even better. The old ones didn't have a place to store the power cord or attachments which the new ones have. I had been using a highly recommended upright vacuum that was suppose to not leak dust back into the house since it had all sorts of filters to collect and stop dust prior to exiting the machine. It leaked dust. It started letting dust back into the air at the beater brush and continued to leak dust throughout the system. The Rainbow, I'm proud to say, does not leak any dust at any point. The cleaning ability of the Rainbow surpasses even the most expensive filtered typed cleaning system. I proved this myself by using my "old" upright vacuum to clean the carpets first. I spent a lot of time doing this because I wanted to be fair to both cleaners. I then brought out the Rainbow and went over the same area rather quickly. You wouldn't believe what my "old" vacuum was leaving behind. The two speed motor allows you to not only clean your carpets but also clean and aromatize the air. If you take a bright light, turn the machine on low, hold the light above the inlet you can how much dust the Rainbow is taking out of the air. You can do the same thing on the high speed but the low speed is super quiet. One of the biggest things I love about the Rainbow, other than it NOT leaking dust and it's power, it how easy it is to use and keep clean. Just simply fill the basin with water, add some fragrance if you'd like and away you go. When done simply poor the dirty water in a commode or outdoors, rinse the basin and the unit is clean and ready to go again just like a new one each time. My recommendation - Try the Rainbow - you and your family will be glad you did.
