The Shimano Stratic FL 1000 is a great little spinning reel. A very smooth retrieve and a great drag system. I also like the long-stroke spool. This reel is exactly what I expect from Shimano...

My new reel for Easter from Shimano.

The Shimano Stradic 1000 Works perfect with my new St. Croix Avid rod that my husband got me. Between the two they weight less than a pound. Have used them catching croppies, bluegill, and small saugeye. You can feel the timid bites. The reel is very smooth.

Quality, But.........

This is definitely a quality reel and I have learned that you usually get what you pay for, however it seems to me that spin fishing is headed in the direction of fly fishing. Example: Reels that can cost $500. or more and rods that can range from $400. to $800. or more. It is getting crazy out there. At this reels price I just can't bring myself to call it a "good value"
