|Sigma 24mm f1.8 EX DG Aspherical Macro is one of the EX Series lenses. This lens has a fast F1.8 maximum aperture with macro focusing capability of minimum focusing down to 18cm/7.1inches (reproduction ratio 1:2.7). The iris diaphragm has 9 diaphragm blades to obtain beautiful out of focus image. It incorporates the floating focus system and uses two aspherical lens elements for minimizing distortion and spherical aberration and astigmatism. Internal focus system eliminates front lens rotation, thus allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and the easy use of polarizing filters. The lens incorporates non-vignetting optical construction, in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness even at open aperture. This is desirable for digital cameras. The lens also incorporates dual-focus mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, and yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.|

Under-rated and unique
I'm a very serious hobbyist and purchased this lens for times when the 35L was not wide enough. I primarily use it on the Canon 5d mkii. While the bulid quality is not on par with a canon L lens, niether is the price. Center sharpness at 1.8 is plenty good enough for prints, and by f/2.8 it's razor sharp corner to corner. The most interesting quality of this lens is the close focusing distance, which combined with the wide field of view and wide aperture, make for shots not possible with any other lens. It's a very fun lens and for the price, a teriffic value. The only drawback is the lousy sigma focusing motor which sounds like a coffee grinder, and less-than-smooth focusing ring. I often bring this lens along on trips just because it is a fun lens to shoot with, and offers a lot less distortion than the 24-105L at 24mm.
Stellar Performer! Excellent IQ!
This lens is often under rated and overlooked! This is a fast lens in a great focal range! Macro, not a true macro, but more a close-up, but it works well for flowers and the like. Great portraiture lens due to the creativity that can be gotten with the f/1.8 aperture! Bokeh is amazing! CA/PF is super well controlled and seldom ever rears its ugly head!! Build quality, massive, lol, like a tank! I did not think I would like a prime lens in the focal range in the beginning, but I was converted very quickly to loving it! AF is nice and quick and relatively quiet for not being HSM. Focus locks on good and very accurately. Contrast, sharpness, and color reproduction are just perfect! This is an awesome fast aperture lens! Works well in good light as well as poor lighting!
