GREAT first DSLR!! Could buy 2 of them for the price of 1 of another brand.
I bought this camera because i was finally ready for a 'real camera' with interchangeable lenses. I've purchased many digital point and shoot cameras and am a photographer only for hobby but my creative limits had been reached with smaller cameras. I'd say this is a great first SLR camera for a beginner like myself who is ready to really learn about f-stops, aperture, shutter speeds etc.. in order to really use this camera to it's highest potential. I'm ready a lot online and watching youtube and vimeo videos about DSLR cameras. I don't like how it does not have "live view" requiring me to use the viewfinder to take any photos. The continuous shooting mode is slower than a newer more expensive camera but it is not too slow for my purposes. (it might shoot 2 to 4 pics in 2 seconds, briefly pausing between each shot, depending on camera settings and lighting) I LIKE the feature which detects when you have your eye up to the camera and it starts focusing while you're preparing to shoot.. (altho i have turned that feature off, until i know better how long the battery lasts with focusing only on command then i may turn the feature back on. I LIKE how it has an auto-review feature, of 2, 5, 10, 20 seconds or Off. I use a 5 second review, so a photo appears after you pull the camera away from your eye. I wish i could zoom in on a photo (like i could on all of my previous digital cameras) but here, i cannot. So, sometimes photos that look fine on the review are a bit soft when i'm reviewing them on my computer later. I like the 9 point auto focus and the ability to track if a subject is moving and adjust focus accordingly. Actually i love that feature.. especially while in continuous shooting mode, it will also continuously focus (unless you turn that feature off) and in my experience will not let you take a fuzzy photo).. this is true in any mode so far too however.. in AF mode. If it cannot find a focus point, the camera will not snap a photo, even if you press the button to try to take it anyway. I like the size and weight of the camera. I like how easy it is to enable or disable flash and to access settings to make other changes. I like the dial on the front of the camera which is used to increase or decrease certain settings. Macro mode i'm not too sure about yet, it seems a little less friendly than other macro functions on other cameras. However, i may not understand how macro works completely with these larger lenses, i need to read more about that. I rated this camera 5 stars and it is my first "real" SLR camera. I have not used any other brand for more than an hour so my rating may or may not be different if i had something more to compare to. However i'm impressed with this Sony so far and spent less than 300 dollars on the kit with 2 lenses. (less $ than my previous panasonic lumix fz-18s point and shoot!) I would recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a 'starter' camera who doesn't want to break the bank. Also would like to say that with the 10.2 resolution and a good photo editing program, i'm getting fantastic results with exposure compensations, contrast and lighting or other color adjustments on my computer.. there's no loss of quality in fact the photos only get better with a simple 'auto exposure' or 'auto color' feature on my editing software. Great camera and i found a great seller. This item was in perfect condition, like new at a steal of a price. I will get a lot of use out of this camera.
Sony A230 DSLR
I have been a fan of the Alpha cameras from sony. My previous A350 was stolen so bought this camera instead. I bought the body in excellent condition for $150, which is defiately worth it. My Previous A350 was a 14.2 MP, but this is only 10.4MP. To be honest unless you are wnating to do proffesional photography, it will prenty of a camera for you. I also enjoy the accesability of being able to buy Minolta lenses for the camera that can become a lifesaver when finding deals on lenses. The Camera takes great pictures, I prefered this consumer DLSR over the Nikons beginner cameras. You will not be desapointed, just make sure you get a good deal. I wouldn't pay more than $250 for the Body and a lens. No more than 180 for just the Body. The A390 or A350 would be a better camera is you are going to have to pay more. Remember what will really make the difference will be the lenses you invest in.
Happy with purchase, vendor and the whole E-Bay experience
excellent value overall. purchased Sony because of compatibility with Minolta lenses. After talking with a friend he bought the A500...that will be my next because of additional features. Seller was excellent and exceeded all expectations. this is a great 1st serious DSLR.
