Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) is The Rolling Stones' second official compilation album, released in 1969 shortly following Brian Jones's departure from the group and subsequent death. The album was released by Decca Records in the UK and London Records/ABKCO Records in the US. In September, Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2), dedicated to Jones, appeared with an octagonal-shaped album cover. The name of the album is a play on a line from the KJV translation of I Corinthians 13: "For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face...", but it is more likely the Stones intended a homage to Ingmar Bergman and his 1961 film Through a Glass Darkly. In the inside flap of the album, there is a anonymous poem chosen by Jones, which reads: "When this you see, remember me, and bear me in your mind. Let all the world say what they may, speak of me as you find." In August 2002 the US edition of Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) was reissued in a new remastered CD and SACD digipak by ABKCO Records.

    A 'No Brainer' Purchase

    Having purchased a new SONY SCD-XA5400ES SACD player last November on ebay, I have been slowly, but surely, collecting the Rolling Stones hybrid SACDs that were released in 2002. Even though if you collect every CD (album) you will have in some cases 5 versions of some songs due to greatest hits/compilations, my goal was to collect all of the SACDs. Through the Past Darkly was one of my first album purchases of the Stones when it was first released. So there's some nostalgic reasons for the purchase as well. It's still one of the best 'single' album purchases you can get of the Stones classic material. I would highly recommend this SACD to anyone interested in obtaining some of the best Stone's material in SACD format. No doubt, the Stones recording standards ...

    Rolling Stones, Through The Past Darkly

    This is one of my favorites in the ABCO Stones, SACD remastered series. Most of the titles on this one are from midway to a little later on in the Stones' 1960s incarnation, so they are recorded better than some of the earlier work. It's a hybrid disc so you can listen to it on a regular cd player, but if you have sacd, then you will enjoy the more open, spacious soundstage and the more solid low end when compared to the regular, redbook cd version.

    defenitly THE Stones C.D for NON Stones afficionados !!

    I do listen to Rock Music for 50 years . So I do have thousands of Albums, cds .... but not a single Stones album !!!! I'm not a Stones Fan either ....but I do like the Stones classic numbers of this album (bringing back awesome memories ) !!! to make it short if you want to buy your first or only one Stones Album ....................... Buy this one it's the GREATEST one ( to my opinion only of course !!!!! Rock on ..... Richie
