A blast from the past!
The Vivitar Series 1 70-210 lens, the version made by Komine, is a terrific lens. Feels very old-school when using on a modern DSLR, but produces great results. With a fast f/2.8 to work with, it is great for low light and for creating beautiful broken. The photos look very painterly, a pleasing look that I don't seem to get with my more modern lenses. While not the easiest lens to use with a DSLR, it can be used in full manual or aperture mode on some models. Also does not AF. Check the compatibility charts for your camera. I personally like the feel of zooming and focusing with one turn of the ring, it was quite easy in the old days with the split circle focusing aid, but not really such a bother that I miss AF. Way back in 1978 I bought the first version of this lens and shot ... The Vivitar Series 1 70-210 lens, the version made by Komine, is a terrific lens. An enthusiast's lens.
This is Vivitar Series 1, version 3, a Komine lens. Superb!!! it is every bit as good as my Nikon lenses! Very little fall off, and sharp at the corners,and not just at f/11. A rare piece of glass, it seems a little strange because the focus ring cranks the wrong way (What? Backwards?) but the pictures it produces are exceptional. If you can get this Series 1 lens under $200, grab it! Yes, it's manual. Yes, it a bit heavy. But you bought it for the pictures. Didn't you?This is Vivitar Series 1, version 3, a Komine lens. One of the best of the manual focus zooms.
Great lens. Pretty fast for it's size and weight. Great macro. Unlike many zoom lenses it does not extend when you zoom the lens which is something I really like. All metal of course. The only thing against it is that it doesn't have automatic focus. This along with the Tamron adaptall 19 ah are the best of the older manual focus zooms in my opinion. I have two copies of this lens. One in the Nikon AIS mount which I use with my d7000 and the other with a Pentax A mount. I use the Pentax mount lens more often as I get the advantage of image stabilization which is built into the Pentax body.Great lens. Pretty fast for it's size and weight. Great macro. I never bought this lens
The lens I purchased was the Vivitar 70-210mm Series I, f/3.5, Nikon mount. Good but heavy. Had one years ago and was sorry I sold it. This is a replacement.
