I bought the HDR-SR11 wanting an upgrade from my Cannon 8mm camcorder. I wanted a HD camcorder with good still picture capability. Since I am a Mac user, I had to pick a Mac "compatible" product. The camcorder captures excellent video quality as well as excellent stills. I do not care for the touchscreen menu, it fingerprints the LCD screen. The viewfinder is a plus for me. Not many new camcorders have this. The dual record mode is an added plus. Problem on the Mac users side. Sony doesn't provide software to handle the AVCHD format. Since I'm using a Power PC G-5 iMac with OS10.4.11 software, it limits me even more. I may have to limit my recording to SD instead of the HD format. The lack of better Mac "compatibility" causes me to give the camcorder a "GOOD" rating. On the hardware side, the battery pack could have been more powerfull with longer recording life. For my usage the 60GB hard drive is adequate. The audio volume could be better. The large LCD has great resolution. There are features that an amateur user like me will never utilize, but they are there for those that might. In summation, the HDR-SR11 is a great camcorder, but presents problems with Mac usage.Read full review
This is a super handy camcorder that also doubles as an EXCELLENT webcam for livestreaming (as long as you have the right mini to standard hdmi cable and a converter) Super easy to use and a variety of settings for image quality. The 60gb HD is just shy of a 64GB card on cameras that use that media, so you get plenty of record time. Footage works in all the stanard NLEs, and since these are a little older, you can get some great value if you don't mind the limitations of the AVCHD codec,

I have had this exact camera for many year, and have taken it all over the world. It has been banged, dropped numerous times, gotten rained on, and has continued to work great. I have used it so much that the on an off button started sticking, so I thought it was time to get a new one exactly like the old one, even though it is an older model. The picture quality is great, and the sound quality is good, except for in windy conditions. It has a high quality Carl Ziess lens, and having the eyepiece is easier to use than a screen, which is hard to see in sunny conditions. I would highly recommend this camera.

This camera had most of the features I was looking for ... a viewfinder, the ability to record HD video to a Memory Stick and a Mic input. HDMI out provides a startlingly good picture on even a 720P LCD. My only gripe, and it's a small one, is the lens isn't very wide. It's best for outdoor shooting where you have enough room to get far enough away from your subject to get everything in you'd like. I was easily able to put a wide angle adapter on the camera with the standard screw fitting. Having used the HDR-SR11 for a couple of months now to make both HD and SD family videos, I would purchase it again. Don't expect to get much more than an hour of record time out of a standard battery. I purchased an extended battery which, though larger, does the job.
I have two others and have been using them for a public access TV show. The 60 gb hard drive holds a lot of footage and though they are several years old, the image quality and reliability is great. So I ordered another one just like them to replace an older camera. That way I'm sure not to get any surprises with newer technology.

Sony got this one right. It's an old camera now and I've since upgraded to a Sony 4K camera, but the HDR-SR11 was the starting point for judging functionality for me. Older reviews from 2009 complain of Mac compatibility problems. That was the case for almost anything since AVC was a very new format. Not so in 2017. Final Cut Pro X on Mac runs great with the video out of this thing. Even decodes the surround audio correctly with really good results. Good pictures, deep zoom capability and fairly decent stills when you need them.

Bought this one to replace one that I had used constantly for 2 years. Good reliable camera with easy to use features. I use this camera in HD mode for all projects, and the video looks awesome! Because of the hard drive, shooting for a long time is no problem. I now have 2 of these and if one goes down for whatever reason, I will buy another just like it. Great Camcorder model!

Purchased this camera for Night Shot and the ability of using a viewfinder or side monitor. I was impressed with the quality of images and features and have made this camera my main video device. I wish the zoom lens had more wide angle.
Great camera from Sony! I already own 3 of these and use them for my video production business. Big picture in a small package. I know this small "handycam" can outperform more pro level ones in terms of image quality, + there's the size, ease of use, and list of features to add to that. If it's either for family use, or for an aspiring videographer, I would and do recommend this one. Good bang for your buck, and there's lots of aftermarket support, so you can keep on adding more to this already powerful little cam. I've been using them for 4 years already, and will keep on using them for as long as I can. In short, if you can get one, do so... you will not be dissapointed.
I wanted a new camcorder for Family Gatherings, Holidays, Birds at the Feeders and Pets / Wildlife. I tried the new cameras and found them difficult to operate with my large hands. I recalled this style of Sony Camcorder from when I looked at camcorders a couple of years ago. The enlarged case on the right side gives me something to wrap my palm around and keep my fingers a comfortable distance from the buttons for easy operation. This particular model of this camera style has the best specs and features by far; very close to current standards except for memory. This must be why this particular model is commanding the big dollar for a used, last generation camcorder. The camera I bought seemed to be the best buy for my money and in the best condition of all the used units available on Ebay at that time. Seems they are going for even more now. I have only used it for a couple of hours of test shots so far, and I really like what I see. I have no doubt I will be completely satisfied when I put it to real time use.Read full review
