I know people like to bash Microsoft. I have too. They put out their software and let their customers work out the bugs. That is my feeling anyway. But as far as this dock and the Surface pro 3 I have both. They are solid quality products. I might be one of the few but both worked right out of the box. I did read about the "active" adapters before I purchased it. I have had no problem with adding 2 displays. The display cable that came with my Surface Pro 3 is hooked up to my 55" flat screen Panasonic TV. I updated the firmware and downloaded a couple of the docks diagnostic tools that check every aspect of the doc's functions. I am running Win 10, now that's another story.

I am using a single external monitor and a usb keyboard and mouse. all going through a KVM switch to the dock. it works exactly as it should. one thing to note is that the power/dock cable will charge the surface when inserted in either direction but only works with the monitor, kb, and mouse when the cable extends downward. also, be sure to install the dock firmware updater and run it.

I tried an off brand one, didn't work as well, this one works perfectly highly recommend if you can find a deal on it like I did. The only one that even looks remotely better is that $400+ one that holds the surface up so you can use it as a drawing surface and do other things with it, but that's frankly overkill.

i was using a 4 port usb device before and couldn't figure out why my 2nd monitor ran so slow and realized i needed more juice. This did the trick and i love the ease of not having to unplug everything when i want to just take my laptop for abit.

Quality, well-constructed, durable add-on if you have wired peripherals to add to your Surface Pro 4. And unless you happen to have an extra $3,000 on-hand to shell out for a SP4 with a factory-installed TB of memory, it is not only ideal but necessary to attach the same amount of memory in an external SSD and save yourself ~ $1,300.00. Here is the problem: This product is NOT a docking station. You cannot 'dock' your SP4 because there is no 'dock.' It does have ap nice durable charging cable, (thicker than the one included with your SP4 purchase), and a USB CABLE that leads to a 3-lb block in which to connect your necessary external SSD via USB CABLE and other necessary peripherals ... and that block is connected by yet another CABLE to a power adapter, which is connected to the power CABLE to plug into the wall, (geez, how many cables did I say? I can't really tell; I just have them all wadded up with the extra power adapter and that 3-lb block and my SSD and its CABLE; you get the picture). I wanted an adjustable single-unit docking station which I could insert my SP4, and with all the same expansion ports, also with a port to dock my SSD, to turn my SP4 into a comfortable work station: A desk top, when that is what I need. The SP4 has the capability to function at any level and my opinion, the best tablet ever made. It is a shame Microsoft did not have the insight to understand the needs of their clientele. Bought this so I can set up a dual monitor and have my surface pro 3 in the middle. The screens look beautiful and the surface dock works just the way I hoped it would work.

The dock makes connecting two monitors to the surface a breeze. It's also very nice to have my mouse and keyboard all connected using one wire to my surface book. I work from home but take my surface book to every meeting. It's so amazing to just let the magnetic charger connect or disconnect and work or go.

Nearly perfect. Powers my surface laptop, gives me all of the connections I need. I wish the cable from the dock to the computer was longer, so I could place the dock under my desk. I also wish that one of the display connections was HDMI, as most monitors connect via hdmi still. Other than that, worth every penny, especially as a second charger for the laptop. Very well thought out.

The dock has two HDMI ports, four usb 3.0 ports, an audio port, and a gigabit Ethernet port. I have used them all and they work seamlessly with my Surface Pro 4. The usb ports can be used for charging other devices the usual way and the SP4's battery charges while using the dock. Transfer speeds are fast and the video quality (HDMI ports) is great. The brick is reasonably sized, serves as the power supply for the SP4, and connects to the SP4 using the same connector technology as the regular power supply. The dock is of the same quality and performance as the SP4 itself so it is a great way to extend the usefulness of the SP4. Buy one!

Overall nice, but doesn’t put out enough USB power for external DVD drive. Must use an external, powered USB hub plugged directly into the Surface USB port, doesn’t work through docking station.
